Wear Thunder attire for the entire conference, but especially Wednesday and Thursday . We have a Thunder Sr VP opening the conference on Wednesday and Thunder guests on Thursday evening, so Thunder Up! The downtown businesses are also gearing up for playoffs, so if you venture out to Bricktown during the conference, you will notice the Thunder excitement all around you! 2. Bring your books or cash donations for our service project, Thunder Cares. They requested paperback books for 3-5 graders and stated cash donations are great as well! We will have our basket auction again this year and I'm really excited about some of the items you'll get to bid on, so bring cash to buy your tickets! 3. We need a candidate to run for President Elect. We have one person on the ballot, but what's an election without at least 2 candidates? This particular position is important and prior committee chair and/or board experience is helpful. You will have a year to learn from the President and Past President about what to do during your President year, so if you don't feel confident, don't worry. You will feel well-trained by the time you need to be. So, what's in it for you? OASFAA pays for the President Elect to attend the NASFAA Leadership conference in Washington DC during the president elect year, and the SWASFAA conference and NASFAA conference during the President year. You also get to spend time with the great people on the OASFAA board and committees. We have a lot of fun and always learn a lot from each other. Let me know if you want to run or if you have questions! 4. As current President Elect, I need committee chairs for next year. There are many options and we have something that will fit your strengths. Talk to me at the conference and we will figure out what works best for you! If you're not attending the conference, email or call me. Conference attendance is not a requirement to be involved in OASFAA. 5. The Local Arrangements and Program committees have worked hard to put a great conference together. If you have ideas or suggestions for topics for future conference, please find me at the conference and let's talk! We want to make sure the conference meets everyone's needs if at all possible. I'll see you all in 6 days! Jonna Raney OASFAA Conference Chair -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Jennifer Williams, last year's training attendee said, 'I attended last year's SWASFAA Mid-Level training, and it was one of the best trainings I've participated in! I had to make a special request in order to attend as our budgets were extremely tight, but my request was granted due to the cost savings offered through credential testing as well as the education gained for myself, my office, and my institution. The trainers were very knowledgeable, and they helped facilitate some incredible discussion concerning best practices in many areas. It was also a wonderful networking tool; I've been in contact with several of the other attendees to request forms that they use or just to see how their office handles certain issues. Great experience, great training, and greatly worth the cost and time!' Karen Long-Trail said, 'The SWASFAA mid-level training provided me an outstanding opportunity to earn recognition and mastery of content in many areas of financial aid. Eve n as an experienced professional my knowledge expanded, which in turn has made me a better employee and advocate for my students. The opportunity to sit for NASFAA credentials is a bargain and a wonderful asset to compliment financial aid offices and tight budgets. I highly recommend this training for mid-level management staff looking to increase their expertise and knowledge base.' Tomorrow is the deadline to register. If so, what is it? 2. If you have a limit, do you allow appeals for a fifth year? Ok, so technically, that's 3 questions. Our scholarships are for 8 semesters. We have two programs that require 10 semesters, they receive 10 semesters of scholarships. We have a Presidential Scholarship that is full tuition, room and board that is for 8 semesters. They are not included in this appeal policy. Our board recently approved for the 5th year, upon appeal, institutional scholarships may be reinstated up to two semesters at a value of 50%. Scholarship funding is finished after the 5th year.
