We currently limit students to 8 semesters for institutional scholarships. I'm sure most of you have this info on your website, but it's easier for me to just ask. I have 2 questions for the four year schools. 1. Do you have a limit on your scholarships? If so, what is it? 2. If you have a limit, do you allow appeals for a fifth year? Ok, so technically, that's 3 questions. Thanks in advance, Jonna -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... In upcoming blog posts, we'll take some time to peek into each individual state within our region and see what they are up to. We begin this series with an update from the Texas Association of Financial Aid Administrator's President, Shannon Crossland. --Erika Cox Sent on behalf of TASFAA President, Shannon Crossland I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve and represent SWASFAA for TASFAA and the Leadership. I am proud of this opportunity and thankful and honored to follow many in our Association who have paved the way. During 2015-16, TASFAA has focused bringing back the traditions and values TASFAA was formed on. TASFAA continues to focus on who we are, why we were formed, and the history and core values of our Association leading up to TASFAA?s 50th celebration. The TASFAA Board continues to work closely with the TASFAA committees to encourage member participation in outreach activities, utilize social media platforms as an educational tool for higher education resources, initiate contacts with other state and regional financial aid associations to provide financial aid program education, include professional development activities for student financial aid administrators, market volunteerism and involvement within the association, and extend invitations to past TASFAA leaders to share best practices and lessons learned. Below are some highlights of committee work: Awards & Scholarships published TASFAA?s professional development scholarship opportunity on our website for our upcoming New Aid Officer?s Workshop. Communications & Social Media launched the TASFAA LinkedIn page as a means for communication, networking, and sharing best practices. Please take a few moments to join our LinkedIn Group - https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.linkedin.com_groups_8494203&d=CwIDaQ&c=qRnFByZajCb3ogDwk-HidsbrxD-31vTsTBEIa6TCCEk&r=-Lnq0C7sCiFyP0whbJJ3dxf5JnVjhYZXejVPgZDRGLk&m=BINnB4BDcc4a7iabNQhTVKRLDHSQk9KdBbORawyAv5s&s=gx4n4rOla2tRw5okN8tLeftg_21ilx-k565CIP8xhaE&e= . Conference committee is working hard to provide informative sessions and secure speakers and special guests. Constitution and Bylaws is comparing policies and procedures with the TASFAA Constitution & Bylaws to ensure consistency between the two documents. Early Awareness is already working on planning for NT4CM training to begin as early as the first of September 2016 for the early FAFSA release. Legislative issues updated the TASFAA position paper for members to utilize during Hill visits for those who attended the NASFAA Leadership & Legislative Expo. Membership committee has set a goal of 165 memberships for this year. Currently, we are at 152 in memberships. Regional Training was a huge success this year. Trainings were conducted in Houston, Dallas Fort-Worth, Lubbock and Austin New Aid Officer?s Workshop will be May 23-25 at the Hilton Arlington. The TASFAA Nominations for 2016-17 are now being accepted. Positions available for nomination are President-Elect and Board Member (four positions). The President-Elect position will serve as President-Elect in 2016-2017, President in 2017-2018, and Past President in 2018-2019. Board Member positions will serve a two-year term for 2016-17 and 2017-18. As President of TASFAA, I am very pleased of the mentor program I started with our award winners this year. Award winners have been attending our Board of Director meetings and involved as observers in Email communication and overall policy and procedure applications. Thank you all for all you do for SWASFAA and your respective State Associations. This year's timing has been a little tricky since we had 2015-16 seniors that had to wait until January 2016 to submit their FAFSA, but we also needed to start informing counselors of the new changes for 2016-17. So, beginning last week we started our FAFSA campaign for 2016-17, which includes the following steps. * April - May o Postcards (attached) were mailed last week to Oklahoma high school counselors and other college access providers, with the main message being the new October 1 filing date, and that other new "beneficial" changes would be taking place as well. We asked post card recipients to make sure they were signed up to receive our electronic notifications and that more information would continue to be sent over the summer and into the fall. * June - August o Electronic notifications will be sent to start layering in the other changes that will take place with the FAFSA (including the use of prior, prior year (PPY) year tax information). * August - September o Additional email notifications and a new UCanGo2.org counselor kit, including FAFSA materials, will be mailed. This information will contain more details about the changes. * September - October o Counselor workshops will be conducted to provide information and resources. * October - February o FAFSA events will be scheduled and hosted by counselors for students and parents. Well, you ought to! If you are, in addition to the wealth of amazing things we learn at the conference itself, there is another great opportunity for you. I am privileged to say that I am serving as the Chair of the Conference Mentor Task Force for the 2016 conference in DC. Conference alum, do you remember attending the NASFAA conference the first time? We get comfortable with the faces we see and know at our state events and the SWASFAA conference, but do you remember feeling like a fish out of water that first NASFAA conference? Even if you'd been an aid administrator for some time? There were just so many people you didn't know, so many more sessions to attend! You can help mitigate that feeling for first-time attendees! This Task Force is looking for volunteers for the steering committee and for "mentors" while at the conference. Our job is to create opportunities for first-timers to network with one another and with mentors with whom we have paired them. Not only do we want fellow first-timers to have a chance to meet one another, but also connect with conference veterans, both with the goal that these opportunities create post-conference relationships. We all know how valuable we are to one another, that we are our own best resources. Why not enlarge your network? Can you know too many people who work at similar schools? And I know you never run out of questions related to your financial aid management system. While there is only room on the Steering Committee for one SWASFAA representative, for those of you who want to be involved, a strong SWASFAA contingent of mentors would be amazing. Taina Savoit, Chair of the National Conference, and Andrew Hammontree, Co-Chair of the National Conference, are proud SWASFAA members. Let's further strengthen the SWASFAA presence at the NASFAA conference. You have until next Wednesday, May 18th, to submit your volunteer form. https://www.nasfaa.org/volunteer_opportunities?##mentor -------------- next part -------------- An embedded and charset-unspecified text was scrubbed...
