As President and dear friend of the Moore family, I want to express my love and respect for such a beautiful woman of God. Doris was a remarkable leader, role model, and true servant leader. Her energy and vision for women in ministry was profound. Doris was a dear friend to Teresa and me and my family. She was one of the most gracious and inspirational individuals I have ever met. Her ideas about the home, and family life, and the responsibilities of women in becoming the Godly leaders in the home was a “Big Picture” vision that will continue to ring loud in the coming years. We were all touched by Doris in different ways. Southwestern Christian University was affected deeply by President and Mrs. Moore when they served SCU. We were enriched by her love and ministry to our students in the 1990’s. She leaves a significant legacy. It is my honor to announce that Southwestern Christian University will establish a Doris Moore Women in Ministry Scholarship to perpetuate her vision, and assist students financially that desire to carry the message of “the Cross to the nations of the world.” We send our love and deepest appreciation to the Moore family for sharing Doris with SCU. Please keep Dr. Moore, sons Tim, David, and Philip, along with the daughter-in-laws, and grandchildren of Doris, in your thoughts and prayers. May the comfort of the Holy Spirit rest on this beautiful family. **Life and Ministry** Doris Lorene Jones was born in Laurel Hill, North Carolina, on February 13, 1939. She was one of three children born to William Thomas and Odessa Ray Jones. Her siblings included William Gene Jones (Ada), who retired from the United States Air Force, and Glenda Sue Jones Taylor (Earnest), who was a licensed practical nurse. Doris graduated from Laurel Hill High School in 1956. She continued her formal education by enrolling at Holmes College of the Bible in Greenville, South Carolina, in 1957. She completed one-and-a-half years of study there and the equivalent of one year at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia. Later, after having moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and working on the campus of Southwestern College of Christian Ministries, Doris graduated from the school with a Bachelor of Arts degree. The one-and-a-half years at Holmes proved to be more than biblical training for Doris. That is where she met Ronald Quentin Moore, a fellow student from Langley, South Carolina. At their first introduction, Doris was engaged to be married to another student, and Ron had eyes for another classmate. When Doris’s engagement dissolved, Ron realized he had been smiling across the classroom at the wrong girl and asked Doris for a date. He and Doris soon agreed they were meant to be lifetime and ministry partners. They were married on July 5, 1959, in Doris’s home church, East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness. Immediately following Ron’s ordination into the ministry in 1961, Ron and Doris received their first pastoral assignment by the Upper South Carolina Conference. That pastorate was at a new church plant in Belvedere, South Carolina, where they ministered for three years. Other congregations they led in the conference included Easley (five years), Taylor Memorial in Anderson (five years), and Calhoun Falls. Under their leadership at Taylor Memorial, the church became the first Pentecostal Holiness congregation to average 500 in Sunday school for a calendar year. Wherever they were appointed, Doris was always involved in Women’s Ministries. When Ron agreed to move to Oklahoma City to become the administrative assistant to the General Director of World Missions for the denomination, Doris soon found herself volunteering her services at the headquarters of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC). She was instrumental in organizing and opening the denomination’s Archives and Research Center. And when the Woman’s Auxiliary President, Agnes Robinson, needed assistance, Doris volunteered, without salary, to serve as her secretary. Later, when the budget included the necessary funding for Mrs. Robinson to acquire an assistant, she hired Doris Moore (with pay). During that time, Doris also served as secretary on the Woman’s Ministries Executive Board. Doris was elected as the president of the General Woman’s Auxiliary in 1989. She served in that role for two terms (eight years). During her tenure, she was also a member of the denomination’s General Board of Administration. In 1998, the Moores returned to their home conference, Upper South Carolina, where Ron continued in leadership positions until his retirement in 2010. Doris was always at his side, supporting and encouraging him. Ron and Doris Moore reared three handsome sons: David Quentin (Carol), Timothy Ray (Pam), and Phillip Edward (Ellen). They were blessed with nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. These, and countless other family members and friends, grieve Doris’s passing. Services for Mrs. Moore will be held in Anderson, SC, at McDougald Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, June 3, from 5:30-7:30. The funeral service will be Friday, June 4, at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Eligible students meeting the awarding criteria listed below can be claimed for payment of their OTAG awards upon the institution’s submission of a successful and timely award claim: ● EFC 1700 or lower ● FAFSA receipt date February 5, 2021 or earlier The Award Payment Schedule reflects 5846 as the maximum eligible EFC, which is consistent with Pell in 2021-2022. The maximum EFC primarily serves as a means to identify the total number of eligible students who could be awarded if sufficient funds were provided. Also attached is a list of institutions that participate in the OTAG program and their flat-rate award amounts for 2021-2022 (one amount for full-time undergraduates and one amount for part-time undergraduates). The amounts shown are for the full award year. Important dates/deadlines that institutions and the State Regents’ office must meet are listed in the attached Timelines and Procedures for 2021-2022. These have been established in an effort to maximize the efficiency of the administration of the OTAG program to best benefit students statewide. These documents are being added to the OTAG information section of the Financial Aid Resources for Institutions website http://www.okhighered.org/admin-fac/FinAidResources/ . Pre-populated OTAG Award Claim Forms for use by campus financial aid staff as “work copies only” will be available shortly. The actual Award Claim Form process for standard term fall semester disbursements will begin closer to the beginning of the fall semester, and more information in this regard will be forthcoming. Important Reminders: * OTAG recipients must be eligible residents of Oklahoma per the State Regents’ residency policy. Appearance on a pre-populated claim is not intended to confirm Oklahoma residency. Pre-populated claims are created by selecting otherwise eligible students that self-report Oklahoma residency on the FAFSA and also indicate intent to attend an eligible Oklahoma institution. Non-residents and ineligible undocumented students may appear on pre-populated claims and should be removed per OSRHE residency policy. The policy can be reviewed at http://www.okhighered.org/state-system/policy-procedures/part3.shtml . (See 3.18 In-State/Out-of-State Status of Enrolled Students) The student’s eligibility for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA, administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; see http://www.dhs.gov/deferred-action ) does not affect state aid eligibility at this time according to the OSRHE General Counsel’s office. Many DACA eligible students receive a valid social security number for work purposes only and may believe they are eligible for aid. DACA students filing a FAFSA are not eligible for OTAG and should be removed from the claim unless the specific requirements outlined in the Regent’s residency policy are met. (See 3.18.6 (C)(4)) * OTAG does not send award notices to students. We are relying on institutions to include OTAG award information in their student award notices. Please realize that if institutions do not include OTAG awards in their student award notification process, the students will receive no confirmation that they are receiving an OTAG award. We’re counting on institutions to be the messengers. * Other than OTAG’s Oklahoma residency requirement and the statutory limitations on the types of institutions that are eligible to participate, student eligibility requirements for OTAG are the same as student eligibility requirements for Pell. Generally, if you cannot award Pell funds to a student for the payment period, you cannot award OTAG funds to the student. * Remember the Regent’s residency policy change regarding military personnel remains in effect for all schools for 2021-2022. There is immediate in-state status for all full-time active duty military personnel, spouse and dependent children stationed in Oklahoma. Legislation now extends in-state status to certain veterans, spouses and dependent children as well. ROTC participants are also now eligible for in-state status. This makes these students eligible for OTAG if all other requirements are met. If these students have listed a state other than Oklahoma on the FAFSA, they will not automatically appear on your pre-populated claim forms. Please be sure to add these students to your claim. As always we appreciate your assistance in delivering OTAG funds to Oklahoma’s students. We sincerely appreciate your efforts on behalf of these students. If you have questions regarding the OTAG program or the attached documents, please contact our office. To make sure all interested parties receive this notice, I send it to my OTAG contact list as well as the OASFAA listserv. My apologies if you received this notification more than once. Irala K. Then I designate them as the ONLY persons at that site who can accept the ID's. I know fake ID's are all over and I am sure I could be fooled as much as (maybe more than) any other employee. I think the best we can do is to make sure the person verifying the ID understands the importance of the task. Because I have only worked at smaller schools, I feel I know who can be trusted to be vigilant and who I would rather not see accepting them at other locations. Rex. Dr. Rex has served the International Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Pentecostal community at large for his entire life. Lonnie’s early connection to SCU, formerly Southwestern College, goes back to the late 1940’s. “The Southwestern family particularly recognizes Lonnie Rex as “Mr. Music” for his heart to develop the musical talents of young men and women,” President Tom Murray stated. The early years of Southwestern reveal Dr. Rex’s giftings as he built and directed a choir that is still talked about today. His choir was the first musical touring group from Southwestern, embarking on their first tour in the summer of 1949. They traveled through the South-Central region and then up the East coast from Florida to Toronto, Canada, singing at churches and conventions. One of their major destinations was the General Conference in Tallahassee, Florida. This group was the precursor for the Great Life groups that performed for decades at Southwestern. In 2012, Dr. Rex returned to the Southwestern stage to lead the Hymn Singing during the Homecoming celebrations and has been recognized on several occasions by the college. The students of Southwestern dedicated the 1951 Yearbook to Lonnie Rex. As a tribute to him they wrote, “…a young man who has set before us a gracious example of Christian living; whose sincere friendship has never failed to cheer us; whose musical ability has amazed us; whose sportsmanship has always inspired us; and whose keen sense of humor has afforded us constant delight.” President Tom Murray is honored to announce two annual $2500.00 scholarships in memory of Dr. Lonnie Royce Rex. “The scholarships will assist two deserving SCU students of outstanding intellect and impeccable character, who are committed to the service of others, and who show promise of becoming leaders capable of addressing important issues and challenges facing humanity, worldwide,” Dr. Murray stated. President Murray added, “Music majors will be given priority in the application process. Beyond his global recognition as a humanitarian, Dr. Rex was the epitome of a servant leader that used his musical giftings to increase the Kingdom and magnify God. It is my vision that the heart of Dr. Lonnie Rex will live on through the graduates of Southwestern Christian University.” Southwestern Christian University is extremely happy to have Dr. Rex’s daughter, Patricia Rex Carnes, as a member of the SCU Board of Trustees. **OBITUARY** _\*\*\*\*\*\*_ Lonnie Royce Rex was born in Caddo, Oklahoma, on May 11, 1928, to Robert L. and Lennie Cordie Rex. Robert L. turned 18 years of age two days before Lonnie was born so they both felt they grew up together and always had a very close relationship. Not long after Lonnie was born this young family moved to Oklahoma City and then Enid where his dad took his first fulltime pastorate. While in Enid, at the age of nine, Lonnie contracted polio in one leg. The struggle to recover from polio was intense and he eventually had to have the one leg shortened which left him with a permanent limp. He later stated that he felt this experience with polio helped to shape his life and ministry. It gave him the concern and compassion needed for the many humanitarian works he accomplished. His parents resigned the Enid Church and purchased a large tent so they could evangelize and start churches. Lonnie traveled with his parents and helped provide the music for the services. Lonnie had one unique ministry. He collected empty beer bottles, cleaned them up, and set them on a table. He would fill each one with a little water and then “play” the beer bottles with Gospel music. People attending the tent meetings loved to hear the “sanctified” beer bottles. Lonnie loved music and graduated from Oklahoma City University in music and pipe organ. At the time he was finishing his college degree, he was asked to be the choir director for a new Bible college, Southwestern College. He had a large choir and took them on their first choir tour to the east coast. Lonnie also became involved with the Stamps Music School in Dallas, Texas, and taught classes for several summers. Students from all over the United States attended this school. Lonnie held the following degrees: B.A., B.D., MDiv., D.D. In the mid 1940s Lonnie met Betty Louise Sorrells and they married April 8, 1949. They spent 72 years together in ministry. They were both concert pianists and performed in many churches and at many events all over the world. For a number of years both Lonnie and Betty participated in the general conventions for the Pentecostal Holiness Church, Betty at the piano and Lonnie leading 100+ member choirs each night. Lonnie served on various boards for the Pentecostal Holiness Church and was the first person to donate $100 to the Extension Loan Fund that his father started for the denomination. For a time they lived in Washington, DC but then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where they spent the majority of their lives. Through Lonnie’s musical and business abilities he served with some of the most notable ministers of the 20th century: Oral Roberts, T. L. Osborn, and Billy James Hargis. He was well known around the world for his abilities to set up non-profit organizations and assisted many ministers and organizations such as Rex Humbard, Mohammed Ali, and numerous others. On a personal level, Lonnie invested in a number of motels and office buildings and served on several secular boards: National Chiropractic Board and the Community Bank of Tulsa Board. In 1981, Lonnie formed the David Livingstone Missionary Foundation and through this organization he worked in almost every country establishing schools, hospitals, orphanages, feeding programs, and disaster/humanitarian relief to name a few. He connected with world leaders such as Pope John Paul II, Mother Teresa, Mikhail Gorbachev, Presidents George H. W. Bush and Ronald Reagan, John Osteen, Vladimir V Putin, to name a few. His adventures led him into harm’s way on occasion. He was arrested in Ghana for attempting to overthrow the government when he was bringing a moped to a leper colony. He played James Bond traveling up and down the Nile River and throughout Europe while bringing two C-47 planes of food for Armenia. He was invited to North Korea three times when no American politician could enter. He became friends with Cardinal Wojtyla, later known as Pope John Paul II, while delivering milk to Poland’s children. Vladimir Putin was his KGB agent following Lonnie around in the former Soviet Union while he assisted Mikhail Gorbachev with a number of humanitarian efforts. He visited the refugee camps of the Ethiopian Coptic Christians where babies were born too weak to cry. He told the world their story. He provided cleft lip surgery for over 3,000 children in the Philippines who could not afford it. He received South Korea’s highest honor they could bestow on a non-Korean. He was knighted by the Russian Orthodox Church. Following retirement Lonnie and Betty moved to Spring, Texas where they became involved with Glorious Way Church. Lonnie also became involved with the Independent Christian Churches International and became Bishop Emeritus. He was instrumental in other ministries including the formation of Moms Against Hunger and the Community Bible Institute. He was also serving as a board member of the Oral Robert’s Evangelistic Association. Lonnie is survived by his wife, Betty Louise, and three children: Royce DeWayne Rex, Patricia Louise Carnes (David), and Debra Kaye Parker (Cliff).
