At the OASFAA conference, there is always time built in for an opportunity for similar schools to gather and have an open forum. We can discuss anything necessary at that time, so it's a great opportunity to learn from your colleague, soak up their expertise and best practices, and sometimes vent some frustrations too, whatever may be appropriate at that time. I will be facilitating the 4 year school discussion on Thursday afternoon of the conference, and we'll have a full hour for this. Being at a campus that has a fairly unique student population for the state, I KNOW that I don't see and experience many of the same things you all do, so your participation and engagement is key to this being a beneficial time. Brainstorm on the things you want to talk about, whether it is something occurring specifically on your campus or it is something that we've heard at one of the sessions. If you don't want to bring it up yourself, let me know what it is and I will! If you are unable to attend the conference but would like a question asked or topic posed, let me know or post it back to the listserv. We can discuss it and then I can recap the conversation following the conference. For those of you who are attending, I look forward to seeing you there. If you haven't registered yet, remember that today is the last day to register and avoid a $25 late fee that will be assessed next week on any registrations processed at that time. Thanks! As mentioned below, we expect our State Regents to approve the allocation of these funds to the program at their meeting this coming Friday and we hope to begin processing claims next week. Bryce From: OASFAA On Behalf Of Fair, Bryce Sent: Thursday, April 13, 2023 11:40 AM To: oasfaa at lists.onenet.net Subject: <> [Oasfaa] Update on National Guard program funding Following is a status update on HB 2885 which would appropriate $9 million for the 2022-23 costs of the new National Guard Educational Assistance Program. [current bill text: http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us/cf_pdf/2023-24%20ENR/hB/HB2885%20ENR.PDF] * On Monday, 4/10/23, the House approved the bill by a vote of 93 aye, 0 nay. * This morning, the Senate approved the bill by a vote of 42 aye, 0 nay. * The bill has now been sent to Governor for consideration. The Governor will have 5 days (not including Sundays) to act on the bill. The 5-day period should end by Wednesday of next week. If the Governor does not act on the bill within the 5-day period, the bill will automatically become law without his signature (we expect him to sign it). * If the bill is signed, it has an "emergency clause" that means the bill will become effective immediately upon the Governor's signature. * Once the bill becomes law, the State Regents then must approve the allocation of the funds to the National Guard Educational Assistance Program. The State Regents are scheduled to meet next Friday, April 21, and we expect their approval of the allocation of the funds. * If all goes as planned, and the actual funds are transmitted to our office in a timely manner from the state Office of Management and Enterprise Services, we hope to begin processing claims that our office has already received from participating institutions during the week of April 24. We'll keep our fingers crossed. Therefore, this collection form will be the last for summer terms as the old program has been replaced with the Oklahoma National Guard Educational Assistance Program. Guard members enrolling in summer terms should anticipate going forward that they are responsible for all costs associated with their enrollment. If the April 30th deadline is an issue for your institution, please respond with a note and let me know so that we can make a notation to expect data still to come as quickly as possible. Thank you.
