FAAC Exam Preparation Workshop

Hello SWASFAA Friends,

We’re less than a month away from the Joint Conference in Dallas and I’m excited to report that we have over 500 registrations!

It’s going to be an awesome experience for everyone, so if you haven’t registered yet, it’s not too late.

FAAC Exam Preparation Workshop

Did you know that we there are 31 FAA’s in the SWASFAA region who have earned the FAAC designation?

We want to increase that number.

SWASFAA is also offering a Certified Financial Aid Administrator® Exam Preparation Workshop on Wednesday, October 5th.

For $100, you will receive exam preparation, self-assessment worksheets, exam preparation handouts and complimentary access to the exam.

Good Morning OASFAA friends,

Chad is correct, notification comes to the President and the Financial Aid Director by email.  The individual claims are housed in COD.

I listened to an audio briefing last week with my legal counsel provided by NACUA on Borrow Defense Claims, presented by NACUA members Seth Gilbertson, Senior Counsel, Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC and Terance (Tery) Gonsalves, Partner, Alston & Bird LLP.  It was a great resource; I believe it was taped and shared with all NACUA members.  Reach out to your legal counsel and see if they have access, it was 30 minutes long, and well worth the time.
What I took away from it is this, if the school does not respond to the Borrower Defense Claim, the Department of Education will presume we agree with the claim. It is recommended that schools respond to every claim, either through a blanket denial, denying the accusation, or through a full investigation, treating it much like litigation.  It was clearly stated that there is a need for schools to protect themselves, which is why a response is necessary.

Southern Nazarene received eight notifications.  They came by email from
COD to the FA Director and President.  Our responses were due on September
12.  You have 60 days from the time the notice is sent to reply.

You do not have to reply, but almost all webinars and other discussions
suggest responding because the law provides that the Department of
Education could comer back against the school for the funds that were
canceled.
