Subject: Financial Aid Scam

All,

You may be aware of this but a family just brought in a solicitation that I thought I would share with everyone.

A group booking itself as the Educational Assistance Council, a part of the National Research and Processing Center, has sent letters to students that appear to be an official notice. The notice starts out:

"Dear Parents and Student:

Enclosed is your 2002-2003 College Aid Application. ..."

It goes on to say that they must submit the enclosed application with a $40 fee prior to May 31, 2002 in order to find out what aid they will receive at colleges, universities and trade schools. My family thought that if they didn't file this they would not qualify for any aid.

Just thought I would let you know about this one in case you hadn't heard of them...and your families bring it in to you.
