It was good to see some of you at the Vision 2020 conference last week. The Student Preparation Team needs to clarify some information given at the conference regarding the future of the ACT(r), ACT Explore(r) and ACT Plan(r). * The ACT will continue to be the primary college admissions assessment for Oklahoma for the foreseeable future. * There will be NO changes to the ACT Explore and ACT Plan assessments for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years. * Beginning with the 2015-16 academic year ACT Aspire(tm) will replace ACT Explore and ACT Plan. * ACT Aspire will follow the original philosophy of ACT Explore and ACT Plan fostered in Oklahoma 20 years ago and will be based on the same College Readiness Standards and anchored to the ACT which will still be the primary college admissions/placement assessment for Oklahoma higher education. So the bottom line is: there is NOTHING to be concerned about at this time. The Oklahoma State Regents are committed to following through on our social justice commitment established 25 years ago. As we move forward, the State Regents Student Preparation Team will continue to serve you through paying for the ACT Explore for 8th graders and the ACT Plan for 10th graders, free onsite professional development, consultations, etc. As ACT Explore and ACT Plan are replaced by ACT Aspire, we will evaluate its appropriateness for our mission. For additional information on the transition to ACT Aspire: http://www.discoveractaspire.org/pages/home and http://www.act.org/announce/improvements/index.html Thanks for allowing us to serve Oklahoma students, Cindy Cynthia Brown, Ed.D. I have received a similar message from a few of you: Early in June I received an E-mail from ACT about ordering Explore and Plan materials. However, it said if I had a contract arrangement to wait for a different e-mail. I have not received one. When should I order my Explore and Plan materials? The email from ACT should NOT have been sent to Oklahoma schools because I had already sent a message telling you to order. So the bottom line: if you haven't ordered EXPLORE and PLAN for this fall, please do that soon (instructions are attached). If you encounter difficulties with the system, please call EPAS Customer Support at 1-877-789-2925. The testing window is August 20 through October 31. Please feel free to email or call if you have questions. Cindy Cynthia Brown, Ed.D. Director, Student Preparation OSRHE -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Director, Student Preparation Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education ________________________________ From: Cari Lousch [Cari.Lousch at act.org] Sent: Sunday, July 21, 2013 11:52 PM To: Brown, Cynthia (OSRHE) Subject: ACT Spring 2014 District Choice State Testing (DCST) : School Day ACT I am sending this note to let you know that the deadline for schools to sign up for participation in the ACT Spring District Choice State Testing Program has been extended. The School/District Invitation letter and Information Sheet are attached, with highlighted notes added regarding RSVP and Eligibility deadlines. DCST has been around for awhile, but in previous years has been offered to a limited number of schools and programs around the country. 2014-15 will be the first year the program will be available to districts and schools on a sign-up basis, and to individual schools within a district whether or not the entire district participates. The program is also being expanded to allow seniors to test. (In previous years only juniors were included.) Both public and private schools are eligible. Students who test on a DCST date will receive an ACT score which is accepted in the same way as a National Test Date score. It is not a "practice" test. The intended purpose of DCST is to enhance access for all students, by allowing them to test at their own school on a school day. It is hoped that schools will test all juniors, and also include any seniors who might still need an ACT score in the spring. Students participating in DCST may still register for and take the ACT on the April National Test date. More detailed information can be found in the attachments, and any school administrator or counselor with questions can contact me directly. Signing up is simple. Schools can indicate interest by following the link included in information sheet and providing basic information. The July 15 deadline has been extended, and completing the RSVP does NOT obligate a school in any way. The August 9 Eligibility (agreement) deadline, however, remains firm. Please feel free to forward this email w/attachments to any Oklahoma educators who may be interested. I look forward to working again with your team, and to serving Oklahoma schools!
