From: Cari Lousch [mailto:Cari.Lousch at act.org] Sent: Tuesday, February 04, 2014 10:01 AM To: Brown, Cynthia (OSRHE) Cc: Higdon, Matt; Nelson, Lisa Subject: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT for SCHOOL-DAY ACT 2014-15! Importance: High Hello Cindy: I just received word that invitations for 2014-15 ACT School-Day Testing were sent out to districts in Oklahoma based upon previous responses to the Spring School-Day test for 2014. I want to make sure that every Oklahoma EPAS school has this information and the opportunity to RSVP if interested. There has been a minimum number of testers added to the program (50 students - juniors and seniors only). However, schools who don't believe they have 50 students to test should contact me (Cari.Lousch at act.org). We may be able to request exceptions. There is a link included in the email message that will take interested educators directly to a landing page for submitting an RSVP. The deadline for testing in the Fall of 2014 is next Friday, February 14! Please share this information as you deem appropriate. The response through the EPAS Listserve for Spring 2014 was tremendous and I know that we had many schools who were interested in participating but unable to commit to that first offering. Oklahoma does have 46 districts participating in Spring 2014 School-Day testing, more than any other state! (There are only 270 districts nationwide, so we are well-represented!) I have highlighted sections of the message with deadline information for Fall and also for Spring testing. I also added my email and phone information so that Oklahoma educators with questions can contact me directly. The process has been simplified, and a list of key dates for the enrollment process for both Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 has been included. Let me know what questions you have. As always, I look forward to serving schools in Oklahoma on this important project! :) Thanks for all you do. As the school counselor, you are in a unique position to help us get this information to your colleagues. Each of the two initiatives provides unique opportunities to honor and celebrate the military children in your schools and communities. Did you know that April is the Month of the Military Child?! "The Art of the Military Child"..... One of the programs we featured at our display was "The Art of the Military Child. This is an exciting program featuring the artistic and writing talents of our military kids. It is also a partnership opportunity for faculty and an opportunity for your school to showcase the talents of your students in your community. More than 33,000 military-connected students live in Oklahoma. "The Art of the Military Child" will be a fantastic way for the school and community to recognize the contributions and sacrifices these children have made for their country. I have attached a flyer that will be of interest to you and your colleagues, in particular the English and Art educators. I would greatly appreciate it if you would share this flyer with them as well as your school administrators. Purple Up! - April 15th..... We would like to invite your schools to join us for "Purple Up! For Military Kids" on April 15th. We are encouraging folks across the state of Oklahoma to wear purple on April 1th, as a visible way to show support and thank military children for their strength and sacrifices. Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, as it is the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red and Navy blue. The attached flyer includes a listing of ideas that your school and community could implement to celebrate this special day. We have found that this is a superb opportunity for communities to work together to support the military children and families in their own neighborhoods. It would be awesome if you would send photos and/or stories of what took place in your schools and communities.
