I am sending this info for those of you who may still be seeing students or have contact with students in your community who may be interested in a Summer Academy opportunity. We want to make the best possible use of every state education dollar and serve as many students as possible.

Get Green for Blue: Outdoor STEM Investigations Connecting Water to You

Put on your waders, grab your net and let's catch those critters! Working in teams, students will learn about water quality through collecting data, analyzing the health of water bodies and determining possible solutions to water-quality problems. Come to Northeastern State University in Broken Arrow and the Rogers County Reserve and be a part of this fun, activity-based STEM adventure!

This academy is a hands-on, stimulating learning opportunity for participants to engage with aerospace-related technologies. During the camp, located in the MidAmerican Industrial Park, participants will work with experts from partners such as Google, the Cherokee Nation Aerospace Industries and Tulsa Life Flight to interact with rockets, remote-controlled helicopters, quads (drones) and blimps. The camp is designed to give participants exposure to exciting technologies through close interaction and competition. The projects will be challenging but with support from a team of mentors, and participants will see that they have what it takes to accomplish their goals at AeroCamp and in higher education.

Summer Robotics Academy

June 6-10
Be a college student for a week on Northeastern State University's campus! This academy will offer learning activities related to science, technology, engineering and math from the experts. Sessions will be taught by area educators with hands-on activities based on AP, Next Generation and NASA standards. Students will meet STEM industry experts from NASA, Intellitek, REC, VEX, Google, and Microchip during the career fair. Students will also attend college preparation workshops to discuss financial aid, college admission and how to be successful in college. The academy will also provide a follow-up connection for ACT test prep support.

Connors State College
Ecological Investigations and Wilderness Adventure Academy

June 19-24
This academy invites students to come and experience the wonder of nature for themselves. Students will stay in a new dorm on campus and each day be transported to the college's outdoor classroom. The classroom is 1,613 acres of lakes, woods, fields and trails. Students will have the opportunity to help with an endangered species research project and go with fisheries biologists to shock fish for a census in the lakes. Students will enjoy true hands-on learning in biology, ecology, meteorology, archery, herpetology, entomology, ornithology and natural history and much more. The academy also includes an introduction to the shooting sports.

The University of Tulsa
The University of Tulsa Summer Academy on Codes, Ciphers and Cyber Crime

June 20-24
This academy immerses students in the fascinating world of cryptography, cyber security and cyber crime. Students will make and break codes, conquer cyber challenges, learn how to protect computers and networks and discover the role information technology plays in thwarting cyber crime. They will be exposed to the mathematics and science underpinning these activities through interactive labs and hands-on exercises. Field trips to local security and forensics companies and visits from federal law enforcement agents will highlight career opportunities in these emerging areas.

Geologic Processes: Exploring the Earth's Cycles

This academy will provide rising 10th and 11th graders with a rich experience in integrated earth science that will improve their skills in STEM in general and deepen their appreciation for the broad field of geoscience in particular. The camp's focus on human interactions with Earth's natural cycles (rock cycle, water cycle and carbon cycle) will provide critical connections among the STEM fields and societal issues that they will likely face either in their future careers, or as citizens.

OCCC Hearts, Health and Heavy Metals Summer Science Academy

June 6-10 (orientation: June 4)
This academy is for 30 high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Participants will take part in hands-on lab experiences in the areas of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, microbiology, ecology and environmental science, and chemistry. Students will be exposed to career pathways in science and to college planning activities. Students will present their projects in a Friday reception including parents. Students will receive a stipend upon completion of the academy.

East Central University
Explorations in Advanced Mathematics and Its Applications

June 12-17
This academy will introduce participants to hands-on, technology-based, stimulating interdisciplinary experiences that expose them to the importance of mathematical knowledge as it applies to areas of advanced mathematics including graph theory, coding theory, topology and mathematical modeling. Students will learn and utilize the previously mentioned applications to solve real-world problems faced by scientists and professionals. This curriculum is developed with the intent to further enrich prior student knowledge of Algebra I, geometry, and Algebra II to align with the Oklahoma Mathematics Standards.
