From lnelson at osrhe.edu Tue Sep 3 09:09:16 2019 From: lnelson at osrhe.edu (Nelson, Lisa) Date: Tue, 3 Sep 2019 14:09:16 +0000 Subject: [OkStudentPrep] PREACT ordering In-Reply-To: <3b178b1d99724d0fb1628ed8c5e61b60@osrhe.edu> References: <3b178b1d99724d0fb1628ed8c5e61b60@osrhe.edu> Message-ID: <897549213a934d81afcc70add66b00e6@osrhe.edu> Good morning, The OSRHE Student Preparation Team is providing the 10th grade PreACT for all public and private schools. The DTC should have received the PreACT email below the afternoon of August 16. Information regarding the PreACT: * The testing window is September 9 through November 22. * You should click on the PreACT funded through the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education when ordering. * When you order your tests, you need to order the accommodations at the same time for your special education students. We ask that you assess all students with the PreACT; however, we leave it up to the school districts regarding testing your special education students. Please remember they have the capability to attend college too. * Please click “I agree to terms and conditions” and the “Place order” button. You will receive a confirmation number when done correctly. * Write down your confirmation number in case they do not arrive when you expected them. ACT can track them with this number. * Complete the pre-administration part with the students during a class period the day before you test. It will take about an hour. * Remember this is a practice ACT test. Make it like an ACT so the students know what to expect when they take it. When you return your answer documents: * DO NOT THROW AWAY ANY OF YOUR TEST BOOKLETS! KEEP THEM! * Please remember to write your tracking number down so your tests can be tracked when you send them back to be scored. * You will receive your educator reports and your student reports within 2 weeks once ACT receives them. They are to be sent back by FedEx. We hope to see you at a Fall Workshop this month! We are super excited to bring you a literacy packed day that will be held at the beautiful campus of Oklahoma City University on September 20th. This year there will be two phenomenal keynote speakers, Dr. Suzii Parsons and Dr. Elizabeth (Liz) Willner, as well as amazing breakout speakers! Please use the link below to register for the conference. Also, feel free to share this email with your pre k-12th grade teachers or higher education faculty and colleagues who teach reading. The agenda for the day is attached. * Early bird deadline is extended until September the 6th. Register soon to get the discount. https://appengine.egov.com/apps/ok/annual-reading-conference Key Note Speakers Information: Dr. Suzii Parsons is the Jacques Munroe Professor of Reading and Literacy Education at Oklahoma State University. Her passionate belief that all learners deserve a voice in this world and outstanding teachers to foster their growth is reflected in her scholarship on dialogue as pedagogy, diverse perspectives in literature for children and young adults, and teacher preparation. Dr. Parsons spends many hours in public schools as the director of OSU-ExCEL, a full-year mentor program for teacher candidates, and as a professional development facilitator. A strong believer in the power of literature to transform lives, she is the President of the International Literacy Association Children's Literature and Reading Special Interest Group and has served on a variety of book award committees including the ILA Children's and Young Adult Book Award, the Orbis Pictus Award for Outstanding Nonfiction for Children, and Notable Books for a Global Society. Most recently she was selected and served as a jurist for the 2019 Lee Bennet Hopkins Poetry Award. Dr. Parsons has received a variety of teaching honors including the OSU Regent's Distinguished Teaching Award (twice awarded), the Mortar Board Golden Torch Award, the OSU College of Education Teaching Excellence Award, the OSU Outstanding Service-Learning Faculty Award, and OSU Faculty Teaching Fellow. [cid:image006.jpg at 01D55E88.3B987CB0] Elementary Philosophers Explore the BIG Questions Through Diverse Children's Literature Dr. Elizabeth (Liz) Willner is an Education Professor and Director of Teacher Education at Oklahoma City University. In addition to educating future teachers, her scholarship includes teacher education, literacy instruction, and children's literature. Collaborating with her fabulous Oklahoma colleagues, she has presented at conferences in the United States, Sweden, Estonia, South Korea, and Spain. She is lucky enough to have the opportunity to read with kindergartners each week at Positive Tomorrows, a school for children who are homeless. Liz has been a nose-twitching reader since second grade and can be found losing herself in books at home, at work, and even in public places. For the past few years, she has been exploring philosophy with children based on picture books, and she'll share her learning with the audience.
