From BWendling at ucok.edu Mon Sep 10 15:19:04 2007 From: BWendling at ucok.edu (BWendling at ucok.edu) Date: Mon, 10 Sep 2007 15:19:04 -0500 Subject: [Okfdc] Posting to the list Message-ID: Opportunities for faculty development professionals to get together to share ideas, victories, and, yes, wounds are few and far between. Thanks to Jym Brittain at Northeastern State, we were able to come together last Spring at NSU's Broken Arrow site for such a sharing. You may recall that at that meeting I offered to host the Fall 2007 meeting here at UCO. Friday, October 5, is the date - I hope this works for everyone. I need your thoughts regarding program ideas. Perhaps we would like to continue Jym's program approach implemented last Spring where we presented a program or activity we do with our faculty? Perhaps something else? Please email be (yea or nay) regarding your intent to attend this meeting. Once I receive your ideas regarding program, I will get more substance in your hands. For the time being, save October 5 for our gathering at UCO! I look forward to hearing from you. This semester we are going to open enrollment to include faculty from Oklahoma institutions of higher learning to participate in the completely online course. Registration will be limited to 25 so please consider acting as quickly as possible. The course will begin October 3rd and will last 7 weeks. This course is designed to prepare faculty to develop and teach effective and engaging interactive online courses. It provides a foundation of distance education theory and application through hands-on experience of being an online student. Completion of this course will provide participants a menu of online teaching tools and techniques, as well as a course blueprint from which a complete course can continue to be built after the course is over. A primary result of the course will be development of the online learning framework specific to your current teaching purpose with an enhanced syllabus with assignments and interactions. The framework will be developed within the online environment and will include identification of engaging and effective activities, interactions, and resources to meet the course goal(s), learning outcomes, and assessment strategies specified for the targeted audience for each course. Performance Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: * Use an online course delivery software for asynchronous and synchronous learning activities * Design and support a learning community utilizing the best practices of teaching and learning with technology * Apply a sound instructional design process to the development of your online course * Construct an online course environment that balances instruction, collaboration, and just-in-time learning methods * Select media and technologies to maximize effectiveness of learning activities Course Length This course is divided into four seminars, with each seminar's assignments being posted in an agenda that covers one week. Print out the agenda, it will make it much easier to know exactly what needs to be done. Time required to complete course assignments is a minimum of 5 to 7 hours per week. It is very important that you have at least the minimum amount of time to devote to this course. This is a "student centered" model that requires your contribution in participation, peer review, and feedback to achieve the course objectives. Clear out enough time on your calendar for the next several weeks, because - We learn from each other in this model-- it's not just an "information download!"
