for Proposals</span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: black;">You
are invited to participate in the 2010 Oklahoma Higher Education Teaching and
Learning Conference. The conference will take place April 9 and 9, 2010 on the Broken
Arrow campus of Northeastern State University. Join faculty-scholars who will
discuss teaching and learning topics ranging from using technology to
cooperative learning. Opportunities to meet and talk to the presenters are
provided throughout the conference. Join us as we celebrate innovative
educators from Oklahoma Higher Education institutions.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: black;">All proposals will be
submitted online using the form found on this page. Please carefully read the
information presented here in order to avoid delays and to give proposals the
best opportunity for acceptance. All proposals will go through a blind,
peer-review process by the Conference Review Board consisting of faculty
knowledgeable about the scholarship of teaching and learning. Proposals that
simply discuss a teaching idea or practice without research and evidence to
document the results are not appropriate for this conference.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 14pt; color: black;">Purpose</span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: black;">The purpose of the
conference is to provide to those interested in the scholarship of teaching and
learning an evidence-based path for the improvement of teaching effectiveness
and student learning outcomes. </span></p>

tracks comprise the concurrent sessions:</span></p>

projects about specific teaching and student learning (in classroom,
online, or blended contexts) in a higher education context and the
research questions, methodologies, evidence, analyses, results,
implications, and applications. </span></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="color: black;"><span>Non-research
analysis or synthesis of the nature, role and meaning of the scholarship
of teaching and learning (SoTL); its integration or recognition in an
academic cultures; how to initiate and develop projects; ways to
promote, foster and support those engaging in such scholarship; how SoTL
can directly improve student learning outcomes; how SoTL has transformed
an academic community/culture; the connects between SoTL and other forms
of scholarship; the problems and benefits of international collaboration
in doing SoTL, and many other possibilities.</span></li></ol>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 14pt; color: black;">Session
Formats </span></b></p>
<p><b><span style="font-size: 11pt; color: black;">Conference Presentation</span></b></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 11pt;">Presentation
sessions will be limited to 40 minutes in length and should involve active
learning techniques. Presentations should be used to present research findings
based in the tradition of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.<br>

<p><b><span style="font-size: 11pt;">Panel
Discussions </span></b></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 11pt;">Panel
discussions are organized and facilitated for conversation about a topic among
panelists and between panelists and audience. Panel discussions are not
individual paper presentations. Panel discussions are scheduled for 40 minutes.

<p><b><span style="font-size: 11pt;">Graduate
Student Poster Session</span></b></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 11pt;">The poster
session allows graduate students to present central topics or questions being
examined, observed or conclusions drawn thus far, as well as further questions
you hope to explore in the field of Teaching and Learning. The information
presented will serve as a basis for further discussion for conference
participants stop to talk with you about your work. <a href="http://www.teachingconference.org/?q=node/10" target="_blank">More information, including
submitting a proposal, regarding the poster session format can be found here</a>.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Moderators for the presentation and
panel sessions will be provided to presenters. Presenters will be
contacted by moderators prior to the conference to discuss introductions and
the content of the presentations. At each session, a moderator will begin and
end the session on time, introduce the presenter(s) and the session topic, and
distribute and collect session assessment forms to the attendees. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Evaluation of
Proposals</span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Each proposal will be reviewed by
three reviewers who will recommend one of three options: 1) acceptance of the
proposal, 2) revision of the proposal, or 3) rejection of the proposal.
Reviewers will provide comments for improvement, suggestions for recommended
revisions, or rationales for why proposals were rejected. Comments will be
given to the submitters of the proposals.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Acceptance of
proposals</span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>The result of the review process
will be provided to submitters within two weeks of reception of the proposals.
Presenters of all accepted proposals must give confirmation to the conference
director (<u><span style="color: blue;"><a href="mailto:brittaij@nsuok.edu" target="_blank">brittaij@nsuok.edu</a></span></u>)
by January <span style="color: black;">20, 2010 that they will present at the
conference in April 2010.</span> Presenters are responsible for <a href="http://survey.nsuok.edu/Survey.aspx?s=bc111e1015b7432786fedf911bf4effb" target="_blank">their
own conference registration and fee</a>, travel and lodging. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Presenters must supply finalized
abstracts of their presentations by February 28<span style="color: black;">, 2010
to</span> the Conference Director (<u><span style="color: blue;"><a href="mailto:brittaij@nsuok.edu" target="_blank">brittaij@nsuok.edu</a></span></u>). Abstracts
will be used in the Conference Program Booklet and in the Conference
Proceedings. The format for the abstract is as follows:</span></p>
<ul type="disc"><li class="MsoNormal"><span>Presentation
topic and names/schools of presenters</span></li><li class="MsoNormal"><span>Abstract
text: 100 – 150 words </span></li><li class="MsoNormal"><span>Content:
summarize content of the presentation, including its objectives and
learning outcomes for the audience. Provide any relevant resources such as
book or article titles and web sites.</span></li></ul>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Presenters are asked to fully
participate in the entire conference and attend sessions and events. <br>

Presenters whose <a href="http://survey.nsuok.edu/Survey.aspx?s=bc111e1015b7432786fedf911bf4effb" target="_blank">registration
fee</a> is not received by February 28, <span style="color: black;">2010 </span>may
not be included in the conference schedule of sessions and program booklet.</span></p>
