It was really nice meeting you at the NCURA Region V meeting in San Antonio this week. As I mentioned briefly, Elsevier is currently working with several competitive research institutions across the United States to "beta test" our new suite of Performance and Planning tools. This includes the Funding Intelligence tool we discussed. We've selected a group of institutions in the Texas and Oklahoma region for this offer. Several of the four year institutions in Oklahoma including Oklahoma State University and University of Oklahoma (to name a few), meet the profile for a beta testing partner. We would like to extend an invitation for Oklahoma researchers and Research Administrators to try our new Funding Intelligence tool at no charge for 60 Days! Please allow me to give you a brief synopsis of this product. SciVal Funding is a web based solution that will cut a researcher or key investigator's time and energy when looking for appropriate funding from public or private grants. We cover 4,000 different funding bodies across the US and 1,000 international funding bodies. A researcher will log on at their terminal using IP authentication. Within minutes the user will be able to find the appropriate funding for their research based on "their" current areas of expertise and research output. The user will be able to save vital information into their profile making the grant application process more efficient the next time they are ready to apply for those much needed funds, Our own intelligence has found that researchers now spend on average 1/3 of their time looking for adequate funding. Also, 80% of the grants that are applied for are never heard from again. This new tool can save time, money and FTE while increasing your chances of getting those much needed funds! These are just a few of the many uses for our new planning suite. We are still in the development phase of production and will provide you with up to date information as it becomes available. I have enclosed a PDF file that outlines some of the key benefits of our new funding solution and requirements for the beta test. Please share this with your contacts internally. If you would like to share your contacts within these institutions with me, I would be happy to contact them directly. Please note that the beta testing process will require some work on behalf of participating institutions to help evaluate and share your thoughts and experiences with the product. If your associates are willing to work with us on this evaluation and testing phase I can provide them with more detailed information as we move ahead. We look forward to working with you on this in the very near future. The budget requests $104.5 billion, with the majority to be used for unemployment insurance benefits for displaced workers and federal workers' compensation. For employment and training programs, the budget provides $8.7 billion for overall employment and training. Because of recent stimulus funding, much of the 2010 planned budget levels remain similar to funding in 2009. Following are comparisons of primary funding levels: 2009 Proposed 2010 Adult $861,540,000 $861,540,000 Dislocated Worker $1,341,891,000 $1,413,000,000 Youth $924,069,000 $924,069,000 Reintegrating Ex-Offenders $108,493,000 $115,000,000 Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers $82,620,000 $82,620,000 Indian and Native American $52,758,000 $52,758,000 YouthBuild $70,000,000 $114,476,000 Community Based Grants (to be changed to Career Pathways Innovation Fund) $125,000,000 $135,000,000 New - Green Jobs Innovation Fund $50,000,000 New - Workforce Data Quality Initiative $15,000,000 The budget also includes $12 million (a 68% increase) to support rigorous evaluations for employment and training programs to determine which programs and interventions work and inform the department's policy, management, and resource allocation decisions for the future. (Note: Funding levels for the 2011 budget will depend largely on the system's performance with stimulus funding and on WIA reauthorization.) I've heard you've been busy helping the faculty and staff with grants information and putting on workshops over the past couple of years, and both Dr. Smothers and Nathaniel Jones speak very highly of you, of course. I report to Dr. Smothers and Nate reports to me. I wanted to add Nate and myself to your list of Grant Resource People and update Dr. Smothers' information as it has changed. Also, please remove the hyperlink to the Office of Sponsored Programs website. I have been informed that it is a website from about 5 years ago and Nathaniel Goodman who was the Director of Sponsored Programs at the time is no longer at Langston. NSF is able to accept directly its full complement of proposals, both regular submissions and those additional proposals anticipated under the Recovery Act, using our long-established FastLane capabilities for proposal submission and acceptance. Therefore, in order to assist Grants.gov in the effort to alleviate system strain and increase system capacity, proposers will now be required to prepare and submit proposals to NSF through use of the NSF FastLane system. Effective immediately, new funding opportunities issued by NSF will exclusively require the use of FastLane to prepare and submit proposals. In addition, NSF plans to revise existing funding opportunity documents to reflect this change and to remove all active application packages from Grants.gov APPLY. NSF will continue to post information about available funding opportunities to Grants.gov FIND. Detailed instructions regarding the technical aspects of proposal preparation and submission via FastLane are available at: http://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/ . If you have any questions regarding this change, please contact the Policy Office on 703.292.8243 or by e-mail to policy at nsf.gov .
