Beverly ****************************** Reminder to all out-of-town members attending tomorrow's CGR meeting at UCO - Parking is in the Visitor lot directly east of the Nigh University Center. Take a ticket as you enter the lot. When you exit the lot following the meeting, give your name to be the attendant and you will not be charged. Our meeting is in the Human Environmental Sciences Building in the Lamb Room on the first floor. An easy way to get to the building from the Visitor lot is to go through the main entrance of the Nigh University Center, make a right at the end of the hallway (in front of Legend's restaurant) and walk toward the dining area at the north end of the building. As you enter the seating area, a set of doors will be to your left (west side of room), exit through those doors and the Human Environmental Sciences building is located a few feet away on your right (across from Broncho Lake). There will be signage on the doors of the building and in the hallway. Please contact me if you need additional information. Message-ID: <8775EA78FE232744BC67431D563D6B4A1CF91C@postman1.osrhe.edu> Subject: Journal of Research Administration: Announcing the Fall 2009 Edition! Dear Colleagues, It gives me great pleasure to announce the publication of the 2009 Fall edition of the Journal of Research Administration (Volume 40, Number 1). This calendar year we needed to publish a single edition, but one that is amply robust in diverse content and thought-provoking significance. In 2009, many anniversaries have been celebrated worldwide that urge us all to reflect critically upon the unique leadership that research administration provides to our international researchers and institutions. In 2010, we will return to our twice yearly publication of the Journal. As we enter the new decade, I am happy to report that the Journal is enjoying a vast increase in the number of submissions. At the present time, the Journal Editorial Board is considering approximately 21 candidate manuscripts --- not counting various review articles and Voice of Experience. The submissions continue to increase and inquiries are bountiful. We all have much to be proud of in the Journal. It is truly one of the finest testimonials to the excellence that is the hallmark of our professional service and leadership. The Journal is ready for downloading on the SRA website as usual: http://www.srainternational.org/sra03/template/tntbjour.cfm?id=598 As the Fall edition is now hot off the e-presses, I want to take this opportunity to thank the members of the Journal Leadership Committee for their incomparable and unparalleled professional work: Dr. Bruce Steinert, Mary Adams, Dr. Tom Roberts, J. Michael Slocum, JD, and Marianne Ward. I deeply thank Mr. Rick Crites and Ms. Brooke Connally of the Henry M. Jackson Foundation who publish the Journal with supreme aesthetic excellence. They have outdone themselves again. I also want to thank the over 75 members of the entire Journal Editorial Board who, under the Leadership, provide outstanding scholarly and professional reviews, editing, and administrative processing of the articles you are about to enjoy. Finally, I want to thank you, our SRA readership and our subscribers. It is your continuing support and enthusiasm that keep us dedicated to serving your continuing education needs in the Journal. We look forward to even more exciting times in the years to come. Before committees can implement effective process improvement, the current processes must be measured and opportunities for improvement identified. Key questions include: - What are your key performance metrics? - What is the average administrative review time? - What is the average expedited review cycle time? - Where are your bottlenecks? - Where are opportunities for process improvement? The graph above illustrates the reduction in total expedited review times that a member organization realized while using IRBNet. For a more detailed example click here to download additional member results as presented by Stony Brook University and IRBNet at the OHRP Research Community Forum in NYC on September 11, 2009. IRBNet provides a unique and unmatched ability to harness data and key performance metrics that support strategic and operational decision making, enable audit and management reporting, and drive process improvement and efficiency across member organizations. To learn more about how your organization can start measuring your processes and committee performance at new levels, and start immediately gaining new insights to drive efficiency across your compliance and oversight activities, visit us at www.irbnet.org . Why IRBNet? Three Keys to Success. 1. The Complete Solution IRBNet is the leading web-based product suite to manage the complex federal ethics compliance requirements governing human, animal and recombinant DNA research, and seamlessly powers IRB, IACUC, Biosafety, Sponsored Programs and other critical committees on a unified platform. Members participate in the largest research and compliance oversight network in the country. IRBNet members include hospitals and hospital networks, universities and research institutions, and both federal and state agencies. 2. Flexible, Intuitive, Easy to Use Your own forms, processes, and standards. The data you need. Electronic submissions. Form wizards. Agendas, minutes, correspondence and more. Easy to use, web-based tools that are rapidly launched and backed by best practices expertise and the industry's leading support team. 3. Our enterprise-class technology is designed to accommodate institutions of any size. IRBNet Members benefit from streamlined processes, reduced information technology and operational costs, shortened cycle times, greater process transparency and superior data reporting. Case Study: Hospital Network Saves with IRBNet In this historic moment of austerity it is more important than ever to save money, drive efficiency and provide a platform for future research growth without compromising compliance or quality of service. Benefits: Hospital Member-initiated case study - Committee administrative time cut by ~60% - Reduced support budgets - Shortened review cycles - Secure electronic document storage - Eliminate costly paper processes - Increased Committee capacity - Increased data integrity - Increased operational staff efficiency - Greater committee and researcher satisfaction "The electronic process is saving our office literally reams of paper and toner, and my time to make the copies. I was submitting 30 copies of every item." Researcher "I can find my work no matter where I'm located. As opposed to the past when paper was always where I was not." Committee Member We'll show you how we can help you manage your bottom line versus legacy approaches. Statewide information about the status of Oklahoma higher education grantsmanship is provided, and we have a discussion focused on grantsmanship at the community college tier and at the university tier. This meeting has traditionally occurred in the summer. However, this year we will host the meeting in conjunction with Oklahoma Research Day in order to leverage transportation costs. So I am inviting you to meet from 9 to 11 am at Northeastern Oklahoma State University - Broken Arrow, B-138, on Oklahoma Research Day, November 13. That will give you time to browse the posters before and after the meeting. We will have an abbreviated meeting, but still provide opportunity to share on issues and gather statewide status data. Please RSVP to me at lmason at osrhe.edu by November 7 if you intend to attend. Those who traditionally attend are Directors/Coordinators of Sponsored Programs offices, directors or administrators of grant programs, or administrators responsible for grantsmanship at their institution. The agenda is attached. I am also attaching the final report of the Grantsmanship Task Force prepared in 2007 for a revisitation. Linda Mason, Ed.D. Cameron University is part of a NASA Space Grant (sub-contractor based on cost share) and one of our faculty is managing various parts of that sub-contract including summer events for undergraduate science students. In previous years, the faculty in question was able to get paid for her coordination of activities in the summer without teaching classes by the university. In other words, she was granted some sort of paid release time. Given, the budgetary situation and the need for about $10,000, the administration is not sure if the university can pay such an amount in the summer of 2010. Does any of you have any suggestions as to how to find specific external grant money to support her endeavors. I checked the internal grant sources, but it is not even close to cover it. Thanks. Thanks.
