Subject: CUR - Registry of Undergraduate Researchers
Dear Linda:
Please forward the below information to your students participating in
undergraduate research.
Dear Students:
The Council on Undergraduate Research hosts a Registry of Undergraduate
Researchers. The purpose of this registry is to facilitate matchmaking
between undergraduates who have research experience and a desire to
pursue an advanced degree, with graduate schools seeking high quality
students who are well prepared for research. The Registry is open to
students and graduate schools in the fields of Anthropology/Archaeology,
Arts/Humanities, Biology/Biochemistry, Chemistry/Biochemistry,
Economics, Engineering, Geosciences, Health Professions,
Mathematics/Computer Science, Physics/ Astronomy, Political Science,
Psychology and Sociology.
Any undergraduate may go to www.cur.org/ugreg/
to fill out a simple curriculum vitae form.
There is no charge to the student and records will be made available to
bona fide Graduate Schools that contract with CUR for this service.
Organizations or companies seeking the students' information for other
marketing purposes will not be granted access. Graduate School
representatives may contact students to invite applications or visits to
the campus and laboratory, or to share information about their research
programs and financial support opportunities.
An institution-wide annual subscription fee for access to the entire
database is $1,500 and departments can subscribe for $300 on their own
for their discipline, if they choose. Again, there is no cost to you as
a student to create a profile.
Graduate schools may provide a link to their websites, and may provide a
short description of opportunities, such as research fields and
fellowships. It will also be possible for institutions to place an ad on
the database website if the content is related to the mission of CUR and
the Undergraduate Registry.
We hope that students who are currently in their junior year will
register now, but anyone with undergraduate research experience may
register at any time. You will be able to update your listing as
appropriate, to include any summer research experience or information
about Senior Theses and test scores. We also welcome submissions by
students who are engaged in Masters' Degree programs now but who plan on
going on to a PhD program. Just fill out the information on the form
including the date you intend to enter a PhD program and your date of
completion of your undergraduate degree. Upload a link to your CV that
contains complete information about your MS/MA degree activity (school,
subject, thesis topic (if applicable), and advisor).
CUR believes that this service will be a great benefit for both students
and graduate schools by narrowing the search for the right match. So if
you are interested in graduate school, please take a moment to register
now. Be sure to include a statement of your research interests, as this
will be important for making the match.
Please feel free to contact me, should you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Robin Howard

Message-ID: <8775EA78FE232744BC67431D563D6B4A219624@postman1.osrhe.edu>
The Regents are hosting a one-day workshop for beginning grant writers.
You are welcome to attend. For directions to the building, see
http://www.okhighered.org/state-system/directions.shtml.
The Grantwriting Process: For Beginners
Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education
655 Research Parkway, Regents Conference Room 2nd Floor
June 9, 2010
9:00 am to 4:00 pm
This workshop is for those who have not written a grant proposal, but
are going to try it soon. Participants will learn more if each has an
idea for funding before the workshop. A beginning session will be How to
Search for Resources, the next session will be Basic Grant Writing
Principles, and then participants will take part in Crafting a Grant
Proposal together as a group. Small sub-groups will be formed to write
portions of the proposal, and it will be put together as a whole
document and critiqued.
This is a hands-on experience. There is no fee, but you must register
and provide a grant idea. To register, send an email with your name,
title, institution, phone, and grant idea to lmason at osrhe.edu. Please
bring a laptop computer and a flash drive.

Subject: EDGE Deadlines
The State of Oklahoma created the Economic Development Generating
Excellence (EDGE) Fund as a public source dedicated to funding applied
research and the development and commercialization of technology that
will strengthen the State's long-term economic growth.
As established by state statute, the purposes of the EDGE Fund are to:
1. expand the number of researchers, technicians, support services,
and associated activity within the State,
2. form and grow advanced technology companies in Oklahoma,
3. leverage additional Federal research grants and/or privately
funded research in Oklahoma research institutions, and
4. improve the health status and quality of life for all
Oklahomans.
Applicants eligible to receive EDGE funding are: (a) private or public
Oklahoma institutions of higher education, (b) non-profit Oklahoma
research foundations or other non-profit organizations, and (c)
for-profit enterprises.
Requesting funding from the EDGE Policy Board is a two-step process. As
described in this solicitation, Pre-proposals are due by May 19, 2010.
In July, the Policy Board will review the Pre-Proposals and then invite
a small number of these applicants to submit a full proposal which will
be due in September. Although the Policy Board will consider
Pre-Proposals in any area, the focal areas are (a) aerospace, (b)
agriculture, (c) biotechnology, (d) energy, (e) information technology,
(f) nanotechnology, (g) sensors, (h) weather science and (i) other.
The FY11 certified funding available for investment by EDGE Policy Board
is approximately $6.5 million. The Policy Board has not established an
upper or lower limit on the amount of funds that can be requested.
However, these are expected to be substantial projects that will have an
impact on Oklahoma's economy; preference is given to collaborative
proposals between the public and private sectors.
Details of the EDGE Fund and for the submission of Pre-Proposals are
provided from the EDGE Policy Board website, www.okedge.org
. If further information is required, please
contact the EDGE Policy Board Office, 405-319-8288 or EDGE at okedge.org.
Sincerely,
Paul G. Risser, Executive Director
