Message-ID: <8775EA78FE232744BC67431D563D6B4A2FC711@postman1.osrhe.edu> This model may be of use for you at some point if faculty decide to use crowdfunding. Linda Mason, Ed.D. The Office of Research has thus far determined that these are not grants, and the funds have come to campus via our Development Office as gifts, where they are assessed a small gift tax, and then deposited into an account for the PI's research. We are in the process of creating guidelines for our PIs who want to engage in crowd funding, anticipating that it may become a larger source of research funding in the near future, with more complex issues involved. I would be happy to share the guidelines with you once they are completed toward the end of the summer. And for those of you still waiting for the crowdfunding webinar presentation to be posted it is coming soon! CU's new Office of Academic Enrichment will oversee honors classes, undergraduate research and the ever-growing Study Abroad program, said Tony Wohlers, the director of the OAE. Wohlers is a professor of political science at Cameron and most recently served as the director of academic research, which will be under the umbrella of the new office. The OAE will be located in the Cameron Exchange building, across the street from the MacMahon Centennial Complex. The goal of the new office is to provide students with a broader and deeper educational experience, Wohlers said. He said the office will reach out to students and try to get more of them involved in Cameron's honors program. Concerning undergraduate research, an area CU has pioneered in recent years, he said the office will mostly help students find CU professors to work with who are doing research with state and federal grants. Over the past few years, CU has involved undergrads in research projects in agriculture, biology, chemistry, mathematics, psychology, sociology and other fields. Wohlers said the OAE will also help students find Study Abroad opportunities. Trips are currently in the planning stages for San Juan, Puerto Rico; Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom; Italy; and South Africa during the upcoming academic year. "The mission of this office is to create synergy between these experiences," Wohlers said. While honors students will automatically come to the OAE for academic advice, Wohlers stressed the office's services will be open to all CU students, although they will have to meet basic criteria - like a minimum grade-point-average- to take part in most programs. "From my perspective, I hope students will get involved in the program, like the experience, and it will ultimately help their academic careers," Wohlers said. Linda Mason, Ed.D. The room is the OneNet Conference Room on the first floor of 655 Research Parkway. The workshop is limited to 15 people. If you wish to reserve a spot, do it now. I am not advertising this workshop widely, just to the members of the Oklahoma Grantsmanship listserv. This workshop is an overview of how to search for grant opportunities, how to select the right grant program and agency, and where the appropriate information is about the grant program. The agency wants to give you money to accomplish its goals, and you want the money to accomplish your goals, so it is critical that you find the best information possible about the grant agency goals and priorities. You will be more successful if you bring a wireless laptop to access the internet and if you have a topic planned for searching. A flashdrive will be useful for you to save information and take it home with you. The room is set up for wireless internet access. We are at 655 Research Parkway (about where 6th and N. Lincoln would be if there was a 6th street). Turn west into the entrance at Research Parkway, and our building is tan and has 655 on it. There is parking in a parking garage behind the building to the north and west. Bring in your parking ticket to exchange for a token to use to leave the parking garage.
