[Linda Boedeker]


Linda J. Boedeker (B.A. Mathematics, University of Texas; teacher certification mathematics and German) has worked with nonprofit organizations in the roles of executive director, trainer, development professional, and foundation officer. As executive director of the Southern Colorado AIDS Project, she managed the provision of services to persons affected by HIV and AIDS in 26 counties. As a foundation training officer and capacity building officer, she assisted nonprofits with fundraising, strategic planning, board development, and volunteer development. As an independent consultant, Linda has filled the role of chief executive officer in arts, social service, and health nonprofits during transitions. Her areas of expertise include grants, e-philanthropy, individual donors, and special events, as well as organizational management.

I am pleased to announce that William Paterson University is seeking an individual or a company to undertake the Research and Research-Related Development Mentor project as a consultant. The primary activity of the consultant will be to develop the interest and capacity of a group of about 10 faculty to seek external support for research and research-related activities by providing appropriate levels of mentoring to focus their interests and prepare high quality proposals.  Additional activities will include providing training to the OSP staff and providing recommendations to the University on how to strengthen its practices regarding external support for research.  A more detailed description of the activity, information on how to submit a proposal, and other information is included in the RFP. Federal budget authority for R&D in FY 2014 rises slightly

New data indicate that in fiscal year (FY) 2014, Congress gave federal agencies authority to spend $3.2 billion more on research and development and R&D plant (together) than in FY 2013. However, the increase only partially offset successive declines experienced in previous fiscal years.

According to a report<http://www.nsf.gov/statistics/2015/nsf15308/> just released by the National Science Foundation's (NSF) National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics, preliminary data for FY 2014 shows a 2.4 percent increase in federal budget authority for R&D and R&D plant, totaling an estimated $135.7 billion in current-year dollars. The increase, to a degree, counterbalances cuts in federal budget authority for R&D and R&D plant, which were down $4.6 billion in FY 2011; down $0.6 billion in FY 2012 and down $11.3 billion in FY 2013.

Funding cuts have fallen much more heavily on national defense than on nondefense budget functions.
