Each year the Keck Geology Consortium has undergraduate research opportunities for undergraduate students in a wide variety of geological/environmental science sub-disciplines and locations. Funding for this program comes from the (pending) NSF-REU program and the 17 member institutions. This year we have slots for 29 students. Our program this year comprises two “Advanced” projects for rising Juniors or Seniors who are declared earth science majors and a “Gateway” project for rising Sophomores and Juniors aimed at students from underrepresented groups in the earth sciences who have yet to declare their major. The program for declared majors includes 4 weeks of summer research (field and/or lab work depending on the project), continuing research during the academic year (jointly advised by a project faculty member and a research advisor at the students home institution), and a publication in the annual Keck Geology Consortium proceedings volume. Gateway students participate in a 5 week summer program. Students receive a $500/summer week stipend and typically all travel and living expenses are provided for. This year we have an exciting range of projects in many different sub-disciplines (climate change, petrology, geomorphology, volcanology, geochemistry, structure, geochronology, paleontology and more)….see our project descriptions at http://www.keckgeology.org/projects I have attached the flyer for the 2017-2018 projects. Please post or distribute this information to any students who are eligible and might be interested. We strongly encourage students from underrepresented groups in the earth sciences to apply. Detailed information is available at: http://keckgeology.org/ The application deadline is February 15th, 2017. The application process is online. Please address any questions to Dr. Robert J. Varga, Keck Geology Consortium Director (bob.varga at pomona.edu), or Carol Morgan, Keck Geology Consortium Administrative Assistant (keckgeology at pomona.edu). Thanks, Robert J. Varga, Keck Director. ********************************************** Robert J. The event will be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel (1815 S. Meridian Ave.) in Oklahoma City. EPSCoR scientists and special guest speakers will address topics including integrative modeling of human-natural systems, observing social and ecological systems in a changing climate, and decision-support tools produced through the EPSCoR award. Students, post-docs, and faculty affiliated with the OK NSF EPSCoR project have the opportunity to register to present posters during the event. Undergraduate and graduate students can also register to participate in a poster competition that will be held during the conference. The OK NSF EPSCoR Research Infrastructure Improvement Award No. OIA-1301789 (2013-2018), "Adapting Socio-Ecological Systems to Increased Climate Variability," is a multi-institutional collaborative project that includes researchers from Oklahoma State University, Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, University of Oklahoma and University of Tulsa. Researchers from these institutions are working together to significantly advance the understanding of how socio-ecological systems can adapt sustainably to increased climate variability caused by a changing climate. Learn more about the research project. For more information about the conference which is hosted by Oklahoma NSF EPSCoR, Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and the National Science Foundation, visit http://www.okepscor.org/calendar/2017-oklahoma-nsf-epscor-state-conference or email Gina Miller, outreach coordinator, at gmiller at okepscor.org. Registration for the conference is free, but required, via the link below. If a poster will be presented (during either the poster session or poster competition), the poster title and abstract must be submitted at the time of registration; the deadline to register with a poster is Wednesday, March 15, at 5 p.m. For those not presenting a poster, the registration deadline is March 21 at 5 p.m. [cid:image005.jpg at 01D26738.63CA2F70] -------- Conference Website: http://www.okepscor.org/calendar/2017-oklahoma-nsf-epscor-state-conference Registration Link: http://www.okepscor.org/general-attendance-poster-registration-2017-ok-nsf-epscor-state-conference Questions: gmiller at okepscor.org Gina Miller Outreach Coordinator Oklahoma NSF EPSCoR Oklahoma State University 415 Whitehurst Hall Stillwater, OK 74078 Ph: 405.744.7645 Fax: 405.744.7688 gmiller at okepscor.org gina.miller at okstate.edu www.okepscor.org [epscor logo with full name--for email] [find-us-on-facebook] [photos on flickr logo for email] [Follow_us_on_Twitter] [youtube-logo-email-oblong] Photo credit: Carolyn Fletcher -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
