Jarrett Byrnes is an assistant professor, University of Massachusetts Boston. His research focuses on the causes and consequences of food web complexity in marine systems. Byrnes is the co-founder of
<a href="http://app.aaas-science.org/e/er?s=1906&lid=26142&elq=ed04408f51b445029462177a790b4a6e" target="_blank">
#SciFundChallenge</a>, a website that helps scientists use crowdfuding to fund their research and as a way to get scientists to directly engage with the public. In 2011, his #SciFund project Hey! Where's that fish?!" received $4,600. Byrnes is also the author
of the science blog <a href="http://app.aaas-science.org/e/er?s=1906&lid=26143&elq=ed04408f51b445029462177a790b4a6e" target="_blank">
im a chordata! urochordata!</a> He received his undergraduate degree in biology from Brown University, and his Ph.D in population biology from UC-Davis. Byrnes served as a postdoc fellow at Santa Barbara Long Term Ecological Research Project.

Erica Hermsen just completed her M.S. in Conservation Biology at Antioch University New England in Keene, New Hampshire. Her thesis focused on evaluating the effectiveness of a variety of bait types at luring cheetahs to target sites. In the summers of 2011
and 2012, Erica set up 35 motion-triggered camera traps in southern Kenya and evaluated the photographs to determine the frequency of visitation of cheetahs to different baits. She successfully
<a href="http://app.aaas-science.org/e/er?s=1906&lid=26144&elq=ed04408f51b445029462177a790b4a6e" target="_blank">
raised $3,212 crowdfunding through the site Petridish.org</a>. The money helped fund five bait stations. Results were provided to the Kenya Wildlife Service and the not-for-profit project Action for Cheetahs in Kenya (ACK) to be used in future radio-collaring
efforts. Erica works full-time as a consultant with Shaw Environmental and as ACK's Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator.

Ethan Perlstein graduated from Western High school in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1997. He attended Columbia College and received a B.A. in Sociology in 2001. In 2006, Ethan received a doctorate in molecular and cell biology from Harvard University, working
in the chemical biology lab of Professor Stuart Schreiber. Ethan just completed a five-year independent postdoctoral fellowship at Princeton University studying how complex drugs work in simple organisms, an approach he calls evolutionary pharmacology. Ethan
is currently working on a record-breaking <a href="http://app.aaas-science.org/e/er?s=1906&lid=26145&elq=ed04408f51b445029462177a790b4a6e" target="_blank">
$25,000 crowdfunding project</a> to determine where amphetamines accumulate in the mouse brain.
