<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto"> We argue that there should be choices in the kind of final-year projects students undertake and how they are assessed. We suggest that diversifying the form of assessment can
increase interest and ownership of students in their final-year project. Other methods of assessment investigated include undergraduate conferences, end-of-year shows, presentations to colleagues, academics and professionals, and preparation of consultancy
reports, as well as, or in some cases instead of, a written thesis.<span style="color:#1F497D">
</span>The book, which was undertaken through a UK Higher Education Academy National Teaching Fellowship Scheme project, draws on over 70 exemplars from across the world; they provide valuable insights into the successes and challenges experienced by others
