Cost Sharing or Match - No Web - http://www.aauw.org/fga/fellowships_grants/community_action.cfm Date - January 31, 2008 Grant Resource - US Department of Justice Category - Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Campus Violence Against Women Description - Survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking from diverse communities frequently confront additional challenges when seeking assistance. Victims with disabilities may struggle with obstacles, such as shelters that cannot physically accommodate them. International students, or the spouses or partners of international students, may face linguistic or cultural barriers to obtaining services. Likewise, victims from racial, ethnic, or religious minority groups may fear discrimination when they attempt to obtain services. When colleges and universities choose the criminal justice approach over the administrative/mediation approach, they send a correct message to victims, perpetrators, and the entire campus community that these actions are criminal behavior. In order to effectively address these unique issues, the Campus Program's primary purpose is to develop and strengthen victim services in cases involving domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking on campuses. The Campus Program also aims to strengthen security and investigative strategies to prevent and prosecute these crimes on campuses. Since its inception, many campuses are addressing these crimes by developing campus-based coordinated responses that include campus victim services, law enforcement, health providers, housing officials, administrators, student leaders, faith-based organizations, student organizations, and disciplinary boards. This coordinated community response is intended to enhance victim safety and assistance as well as hold offenders accountable. To be effective, these responses must be linked to local criminal justice agencies and service providers, including local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors' offices, the courts, and nonprofit, nongovernmental victim advocacy and victim services agencies. Cost Sharing or Match - No Web - http://www.ovw.usdoj.gov/rural_grant_desc.htm Deadline Date - August 23, 2008 Grant Resource - National Science Foundation Category - Community Based Data Interoperability Networks Description - Digital data are increasingly both the products of research and the starting point for new research and education activities. The ability to re-purpose data; to use it in innovative ways and combinations not envisioned by those who created the data; requires that it be possible to find and understand data of many types and from many sources. Interoperability (the ability of two or more systems or components to exchange information and to use the information that has been exchanged) is fundamental to meeting this requirement. This NSF crosscutting program supports community efforts to provide for broad interoperability through the development of mechanisms such as robust data and metadata conventions, ontologies, and taxonomies. Support is provided for Data Interoperability Networks that will be responsible for consensus-building activities and for providing the expertise necessary to turn the consensus into technical standards with associated implementation tools and resources. Examples of the former are community workshops, web resources such as community interaction sites, and task groups. Examples of the latter are information sciences, software development, and ontology and taxonomy design and implementation. Cultural anthropologists analyze human social and cultural behavior holistically, This integrated approach makes anthropology a valuable research tool for understanding the modern world. Because cultural patterns are emergent over time and space, there is no single natural scale for ethnographic and ethnological analysis. In some cases, cultural patterns may emerge from the collective behavior of large ensembles of smaller scale units; in others, they may be imposed by larger scale constraints. The origins of social and cultural variability may be remote from the scale at which they are observed. Therefore, research may target any appropriate scale or scales from local to regional to global. The Program encourages innovative research that contributes to building spatially and temporally specific theory that extends understanding beyond individual case studies. The Cultural Anthropology Program accepts proposals for a variety of project types: Senior Research proposals (research proposals from scholars with PhDs or equivalent degree); proposals for Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants; High Risk Research in Anthropology; Cultural Anthropology Scholars awards (research-related, post-PhD training); and CAREER proposals. The Program will also consider proposals for workshops and training programs, as well as supplements to current awards to support Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) and Research Experience for Graduate Studies (REG). Surge capacity is defined as the ability of a healthcare system to adequately care for increased numbers of patients. In 2003, as a planning target HPP defined surge capacity for beds as 500 beds/million population. In 2006, the HPP also defined surge capability as the ability of healthcare systems to treat the unusual or highly specialized medical needs produced as a result of surge capacity. The HPP started to lay out a series of capabilities that all healthcare organizations participating in this program must possess and this funding opportunity announcement continues to clarify those capabilities. The majority of federal funds (ideally seventy-five percent or more) should be distributed to healthcare facilities. Healthcare facilities are defined broadly as any combination of the following: outpatient facilities and centers (e.g., behavioral health, substance abuse, urgent care), inpatient facilities and centers (e.g., trauma, state and federal veterans, long-term, children's, tribal), and other entities (e.g., poison control, emergency medical services, nursing). The activities and funding provided through the CA are for the purposes of exercising and improving preparedness plans for all hazards including pandemic influenza. The awardee should work with all potential sub-awardees to develop activities that clearly integrate and enhance preparedness activities with the overall effect of making healthcare systems function in more efficient, resilient, and coordinated manners.
