Based on the results, here is what Matt and I are proposing: 1. In-person meetings on Friday March 24th and Friday April 28th lunch at 11am with the meeting to start at 12:30-2pm or 2:30pm if time allows 2. Would anyone be interested in hosting either one of the meetings? The Tulsa metro area location seemed to be the best for respondents 3. The topic of critical literacy/pedagogy was a resounding top choice. Our question, would you like to have more of an informal discussion about ways folks are approaching these issues or more formal presentations? Is anyone willing and/or interested in leading them? If not, Matt and I can generate some discussion questions to get us started and we can take it from there 4. Once our in-person meetings are finalized, we can determine when we can have any additional online meetings Please let us know if you have any questions and thank you! As my community of peers I thought I would share my recent posts; and also take the opportunity to ask you to share any issues surrounding intellectual freedom, free speech, book challenges or anything else of concern. As Oklahoman librarians we are in unique and important position to help shape the debates that are upon us. The ALA's Office of Intellectual Freedom's Facebook page can be found: https://www.facebook.com/ALAOIF/ Thanks! Neither App nor Algorithm The role of libraries in preserving intellectual freedom, as well as the integrity of our collections and interactions we have with patrons, is based on critical thinking and clear-eyed reasoning, not the convenience of a hyperlink. News Literacy in the Library Classroom The Columbia Journalism Review recently discussed how the news media could learn a lot from librarians and the framework, and set of principles, we've developed for dealing with the onslaught of digital information. But the truth is that in a culture devoted to the free flow of information and free expression, we learn best when we learn from each other. Censure & Erasure: The Strange Case of Hans Fallada As adherents and defenders of the idea of intellectual freedom, librarians - both public and academic - are in a position of strength to shape the debates roiling through our communities ... This is not about liberal or conservative; this is about demagoguery taking root. The strange case of Hans Fallada need not be repeated. Join us, and our two guest instructors Sarah Wright and Christina Chan-Park, on March 16th from 8:30am-4pm in the library’s Browsing Room. Program Description: Research data management has emerged as a need among academic researchers and liaisons are building skills in response. This one-day workshop will assist liaisons to identify their existing skills and mindsets that transfer to research data management services and then create a learning plan for the RDM specific knowledge needed to serve their subject disciplines. Tools, hints, and tricks will be shared that facilitate partnerships on campus with disciplinary faculty and with other RDM service providers.
