We have hosted FAFSA nights for the past few years, but we never have more than three or four families attend. (We graduate approximately 55 seniors per year.) Have any of you found a way to improve participation? What is the secret in the sauce?
I make attendance a graduation requirement. I host two events one in the
fall and one in the spring time. Whether the families choose to fill out an
application or just stay to view the presentation. I have found a
tremendous increase in attendance. While families are getting help with
their applications I use that time to do a credit check and verify and
credit recovery that needs to happen before graduation. Graduating is
important to them and so is where they are in the process. I always note it
as a come and go event and provide success. I’ve seen a big increase in
participation. Best of luck!
