 Hi folks,

I think everyone enjoyed the two unexpected snow days we just had. We did have cooks here to feed the starving dorm students, though. They're kind of like that old slogan the U. S. Mail carriers go by, neither rain, nor snow, nor gloom of night will delay them from their appointed duties! Listening to the weather on Mix 93.1, our great new on air college radio station, we may have more snow before the week's over, too. The Sapphire Ball scheduled for this Saturday may turn into the Snow Ball!

Barring any weather related schedule changes, Dr. Donnie Nero will present an informative program on "The History of Education in Oklahoma", in honor of Black History month. The presentation will survey the beginning of education for African Americans in Oklahoma; from the journey with the Five Civilized Tribes to present day accomplishments. This program will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the Johnnie Wray Theatre in Pratt Hall. Everyone is encouraged to attend this stirring and informative program.

>From 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, also in the Johnnie Wray Theatre, the EOSC Library staff will hold their first book club meeting of the Spring semester. The featured book will be "I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban", by 2014 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Malala Yousafzai. Eastern's Honor students and sponsor, Ms. Ruth Brelsford will be among those participating in the discussion. Everyone is invited to attend and participate in the discussion and refreshments will be provided for the group in a nearby classroom.

EOSC birthdays for the week include: Wonderful dessert cook, Yolanda Del Rio celebrated her birthday on Tues. Feb. 24, along with Jessica Dye of Gear Up, Director of Marketing and Communications, and Trish McBeath will celebrate her birthday on Thursday, Feb. 26. I hope all these ladies have a wonderful time on their special day.

Lunch menus for the rest of the week include:

Wednesday: Hamburger steaks with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, green beans, corn, Cape Cod blend vegetables, hot rolls, yellow cake.

Thursday: Oven fried chicken, baby red mashed potatoes with white gravy, macaroni and cheese, fried okra, BBQ beans, steamed broccoli, white cake with cream cheese icing.

Friday: Fish with hush puppies or chicken fried chicken sandwich, coleslaw, red beans and corn bread, steamed potatoes, vegetable blend, peanut butter brownies.

Dinner menus include:

Wednesday: Chicken and a biscuit, or grilled chicken breast, broccoli and cauliflower with cheese, black eye peas, steamed potatoes.

Thursday: Ham or BBQ smoked sausage with scalloped potatoes, vegetable blend, green beans, wild rice, Texas toast.

Friday: Cyber menu options to go. (Since there will be preparations going on Friday evening for the Sapphire Ball on Saturday evening, all Friday evening meals will be box lunches to go. One or more designated representatives will pick these up at the Cafeteria and take them to the dorms. Saturday and Sunday lunches will be handled this way, also.)

Have a great week at Eastern,
Rhoda
