As you all prepare for spring enrollment, I wanted to share the course
offering for the Mass Communication Department next semester. Mass
Communication is a very diverse department that covers the areas of
Journalism; Communications; Radio & Television Broadcasting; Advertising;
Public Relations; Graphic Design; Photography; and Video Production.

We produce a newspaper and a yearbook, as well as a weekly video news
update. You do not have to be a major to enroll in any of these courses.

For General Studies majors, these courses may be used in the
*"General Studies Major Field" of your degree plan.*

*MCOMM-1101-5166 (11174) Publications Production MW 1:10- 2*

*      Practical lab experience for basic techniques in reporting, editing,
layout and design, photography, and/or advertising. Two hours of lab
working by arrangement on the staff of the student newspaper or yearbook. *

*MCOMM-1103-5176 (11175) Fundamentals of Photography M 6 - 8:30 p.m.*
*     Study of the fundamentals of photography for the beginning student
interested in gaining a familiarization with photography and for the
hobbyist. History of photography with laboratory assignments in taking
pictures, developing film, and printing.*

*MCOMM-1113-5162 (11176) Intro to Mass Communications MWF 10:10 - 11 a.m*.
    * An overall view of the mass media and how society is affected.
Designed to give the student various facts of the field and an appreciation
for them. *

*MCOMM-1143-5164 (11177) Fundamentals of Public Relations ONLINE*

*Use of tools and techniques to support public relations programs.
Attention is given to objectives, content, style, and graphic presentation
to interpret organizational policies to internal and external publics
through mass and specialized media. *
*MCOMM-2103-5168 (11178) Video Production II - MWF 11:10 - 12 p.m*
    * Theory and practice of television studio production. This course
provides a basic understanding of studio television with emphasis placed on
multi-camera operation, broadcast script-writing, on-camera performance and
television production requirements.*
