*With enrollment beginning tomorrow (Nov. 4),* I am sending out a reminder
of what the Mass Communication Department has to offer. While I would love
to have you as a major (common areas include public relations, advertising,
photography, graphic arts, video production, journalism, and radio), you *don't
have to be a major *to take any of these classes.
The Intro to Mass Communication course will count as a General Education
elective for several degree plans, and any of these classes will count
toward the *General Studies Major Field*. We are always looking for student
workers and volunteers for Mountaineer Radio and TV
<https://www.eosc.edu/about/mountaineer-radio>.
We are offering the following classes in the spring:
*MCOMM 1223 Video Production II *(MW 11:30-12:45 WIL) - *You do not have to
have taken Video Production II to sign up for this course. This is a great
course if you want to learn the theory and practice of video production
techniques in television/video and post-production.* No textbook is
required for this course.*
*MCOMM 1203 Graphic Arts for the Media *(T 10-11:15 Hybrid): This course
introduces the creative and practical aspects of designing and preparing
materials for the media. It is an introductory course in graphic arts that
uses Adobe InDesign and Photoshop for projects throughout the semester.
*MCOMM 1143 Fundamentals of Public Relations* (ONLINE) - Use of tools and
techniques to support public relations programs. Attention is given to
objectives, content, style, and graphic presentation to interpret
organizational policies to internal and external publics through mass and
specialized media.
*MCOMM 2033 Writing for Mass Media *(ONLINE) - Introduction to media
writing: expository and persuasive formats: supervised practice in writing
that informs, entertains, and/or persuades across all media platforms;
study of professional demands of organizing and presenting information in
various media with an emphasis on grammar usage and mechanics. *This course
uses a Cengage textbook. *
*MCOMM 1113 Introduction to Mass Communication* (2nd 8 weeks - ONLINE) -
This very interesting course gives you an overall view of the mass media
and how society is affected. This course is a general education elective
for many majors. *This course uses a Cengage textbook. *
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. Always speak with
your advisor before enrolling.
