Subject: [He-dtv] Some Follow-Up
Thank you again for your participation in the task force meeting on Monday.
I was particularly pleased with the excellent attendance.
As we discussed, it appears that the work of the task force is falling into
a couple of areas where we may focus our efforts - 1) planning related to
the technologies/services and 2) planning related to the
programming/content. Given your own interest and expertise, please let me
know the area in which you would like to serve. Once the members of these
two working groups are identified, I think we will be in a better position
to organize the work and begin to make some progress.
I hope you are talking with your associates and colleagues about the
opportunities and possibilities. It is important that we hear from a
variety of people on the campuses, and we will probably need to set up some
formal means of getting input from faculty, students, and staff.
In a message to Mac, Mary Halnon was very complimentary of the task force
and the direction we are heading. She also shared some ideas that we'll be
able to use in our planning efforts, ideas about possible phase-in
strategies, funding opportunities (opportunities that sound very promising),
examples of effective practices, and the importance of getting feedback from
the various constituents within the higher education community.
Another item for follow-up from the meeting relates to other state efforts.
Nebraska, Wisconsin, and New Jersey were states that I heard mentioned by
Mary (and/or Mac) as doing good work. If there are others you know of,
please share them with the list. I would encourage you to explore these web
sites (and others) to find ideas and approaches we may want to consider:
<http://net.unl.edu> (Nebraska)
<http://www.njn.net/> (New Jersey)
Mac and I will be visiting about how we might best learn from these other
state efforts. If you have ideas and examples, please share them with us.
I look forward to hearing from you about participation in the working
groups.
Please use the listserv to share any thoughts/ideas/questions that arise.
