"OneNet" is NOT the "Internet". "OneNet" is a Distance Learning network
which uses Internet Protocol for transport of video and many other
services for schools and agencies. OneNet is well connected to "the
Internet" but as a private network, we are able to control QoS
parameters on our network.
This article points out that the "internet" as we know it was not
designed to handle video well.
In contrast, OneNet was a "Video" network providing distance learning
two decades before it began using IP for transport. The State Regents
commitment to quality Distance Learning services began in 1970 and
continues with our H.323 services today. Two schools on OneNet may
experience good video, but when they try to contact a school on "the
Internet" there may be quality problems. This article may help you
understand why that is.
