Recently, one of my vendors passed along some information about the
availability of FREE SSL certificates for any .edu domain.

The company, ipsCA at http://certs.ipsca.com <http://certs.ipsca.com/> ,
claims "ipsCA is a subsidiary of IPS, whose root certificate (IPS
SERVIDORES) is present in Microsoft products since 1999, and other
internet products from other vendors. Our root certificate was
incorporated in Internet Explorer 5.01, Netscape, Mozilla and Firefox
1.0 so is now present in more than 98% of todays browsers. Microsoft
bundles our root in IE, W2000,W2003, XP, WME and NT4 SP6.0."

Has anyone had any dealings with this company? Is this too good to be
true? I welcome anyone's input.
