We have about 7 of them. Since installation in August, 2010, 921 individuals have registered for a Greenopolis account to redeem rewards. Unfortunately I don't know how many of the 921 actively use their account. When there is an issue with a machine, we get an email from Pepisco/WM about the nature of the issue: bins need to be emptied; bottle or can jam needs to be cleared; or Greenpolis account card supply is low and needs to be restocked. Our truck crew folks respond to the issues, but if they can't resolve a problem, Pepsico/WM staff have been very responsive and either help over the phone or come out to Stillwater. Our custodial crew pull Dream Machine contents and our grounds crew deliver the bags of recyclables to a roll-off container north of campus. When that container is full, WM comes out to retrieve it. PepsiCo/WM provides reports monthly via email and specifies pounds of plastic bottles and aluminum cans recycled. The only downsides: * They can tell you how much they donate to the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for US Veterans with Disabilities, but they can't tell you how much of that contribution comes specifically from your campus. * They can't tell us where items go to be processed after they leave the WM Recycle America's MRF in OKC. * The MRF is not able to report how much, if any, of the recyclables are contaminated and cannot be recycled (although they specify it needs to be less than 10%). In summary, I think it's a good program and I'd recommend it. Perhaps you could negotiate to receive the info I listed under "downsides" before you sign an agreement. -Ilda Ilda T. I started to book a conference room for our next meeting and then remembered that we typically meet the first Wednesday of every month instead of second but changed the July meeting because of July 4th being the first Wednesday. Do we want to go back to the first Wednesday for August? Please let me know. Also, I spoke to my husband and he is not available the first or second Wednesday to speak to our group about his company's projects. He will be doing a lot of traveling around the state the first two weeks in August promoting the project to various cities. His first availability is Aug. 9. I didn't know if we wanted to change our meeting for August to a different day or not so let me know. He is interested in talking to our group. As I stated he is wanting to get in front of some college clubs/groups and talk to them about the project. The club we have on our campus is called SIFE - don't know if any of you have one on your campus but have a similar organization. I'll wait to hear from everyone before I make a reservation. Thanks! Ryan Bartnick Office of Sustainability City of Oklahoma City (405) 297-3645 Higher Education Sustainability Consortium of Oklahoma seeks members OKLAHOMA CITY - The Higher Education Sustainability Consortium of Oklahoma (HESCO) invites institutions of higher education in Oklahoma to join the discussion and work collaboratively toward the common goal of environmental sustainability. HESCO facilitates the free exchange of information, ideas, and experience. HESCO envisions a participatory alliance in which all institutions of higher education use their expertise and resources to make Oklahoma more sustainable. The consortium operates by working collaboratively and celebrating the diversity of expertise among institutions. Consortium members tailor programs and policies to meet the individual needs of each campus in accordance with location, student body, faculty, and mission. HESCO plans to showcase innovation and best practices among institutions for the advancement of all. The Oklahoma State Facilities Energy Conservation Program, created earlier this year by Governor Mary Fallin, directs all state agencies and higher education institutions to cut their energy costs by at least 20 percent by the year 2020. This is one of many objectives the consortium seeks to address. "HESCO has quickly become my favorite place for innovation and collaboration with my peers. I believe that this group will take on a leadership role in moving campus sustainability forward," said Tim Tillman, HESCO spokesman and University of Central Oklahoma Sustainability Coordinator. HESCO was founded by the mutual consensus of the following institutions that have shown a commitment to sustainable growth and the advancement of each of their campuses: University of Central Oklahoma (UCO), Oklahoma State University - Oklahoma City (OSU-OKC), Oklahoma State University (OSU), Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC), Oklahoma City University (OCU), Oklahoma Christian University (OC), Southern Nazarene University (SNU), Metro Technology Centers, and Francis Tuttle Technology Center. Also need input on when we want to press release released. If everyone is in favor of this current one, I would like to release it soon. Higher Education Sustainability Consortium of Oklahoma seeks members OKLAHOMA CITY - The Higher Education Sustainability Consortium of Oklahoma (HESCO) invites institutions of higher education in Oklahoma to join the discussion and work collaboratively toward the common goal of environmental sustainability.
