HESCO -

Several OKC neighborhoods and the Neighborhood Alliance are working on a cool project called Neighborwalk that your students may be interested in. It's an educational program targeted toward 5th graders to teach them how local government and neighborhoods work, why neighborhood walkability is important, and how they can impact their neighborhoods through local government. We'll be modifying curriculum to teach them about walkability in a series of classroom presentations and then taking the kids out on walkability surveys around their schools. The program will take place in late April or May, after testing is complete.

We need volunteers to help during the 1- to 2-week event (e.g., to accompany kids on walkability surveys), and I thought some of your community service groups may be interested. We could also use help from students in education, community development, urban design, or sustainability to develop the curriculum.

Anyone who is interested can contact me, and I'll put them in touch with the rest of the group.
