Subject: SOKC: Green Restaurant Workshop!
Hello SOKC Board of Directors!
We are gearing up for our Green Restaurants Workshop, which is set for Wednesday, September 19th from 10 - 11:30 a.m. The workshop will be held at Ludivine, 805 N. Hudson in OKC.
The venue is secured, the press release is drafted, and the speakers are confirmed. All we need to do as a board is to convince restaurants to attend!
Attached you will find a workshop schedule, a draft of the press release, and a list of restaurants to invite. The Workshop Schedule and draft press release will be helpful in describing the workshop to potential attendees.
As you can see from the list, this workshop is for the entire food and beverage service industry, so we are inviting not only restaurants, but also caterers, breweries, wineries, delis, coffee shops, etc. There is a diverse list of properties.
We would like for all board members to sign up to invite at least 5 restaurants. A good timeline to make initial invitations is by next Thursday, September 6. We will keep track of the board member assigned to each restaurant so we don't have multiple folks inviting the same restaurants. Feel free to add restaurants to the list that you think might be interested in going green or that you have strong personal connections with. We have room for about 40 individuals (one per restaurant is sufficient), and we would be thrilled to have a full house!
You will need to approach the decision makers with your pitch, which will vary by restaurant. The decision maker(s) for a particular restaurant could be owners, managers, PR/communications directors, etc. Some folks will wear multiple hats with the restaurant (ex: Jonathan Stranger, a chef at Ludivine is also the owner). So you will need to describe the workshop to your initial contact and then verify who the best person to talk to and invite is.
At the bottom of the list of restaurants, you will see that there are some restaurants listed under the restaurant group they belong to. In these cases, we want to invite the restaurant group instead of individual restaurants. The decision makers will be with the restaurant group in most cases. If a particular restaurant group isn't interested, then we can discuss inviting the restaurants in that group on an individual basis.
Notice that there is a phone number and an email address for folks to RSVP to. We will also need to collect and add to the list the restaurants' phone numbers and emails if they are attending so reminders can be sent by DEQ staff.
Someone had a great idea of putting the list of restaurants on google docs so everyone can update it there. Is anyone willing to post the list of restaurants on google docs and then let everyone know where to find it? That would make it easy for us to edit the document, adding restaurants, adding/changing the contact person, adding emails/phone numbers, noting when a restaurant has been invited and whether or not they are attending the workshop.
One final note: The press release is a draft form. It has to be approved and released by DEQ only. So, the draft press release attached is for your information only so you can describe the workshop; it is not for distribution. Once the official version is released, DEQ will distribute it, and then we can send the official version along to our press contacts as well.
