Space is limited. Overview: Recycling and materials management programs are the foundation of campus sustainability programs but are often treated as a minor source of potential greenhouse gas emission savings. In this webinar we will discuss potential sources of GHG emission reductions on your campus, from the embodied energy in materials up front to tracking GHG footprint of various waste disposal methods on the back end to uncovering data when participating in RecycleMania. Moderator: -Travis Friedman, Sustainability and Energy Manager, University of Puget Sound Presenters: * Jenny McNamara and Anthony Hair -- Portland State University * Brett Pasinella -- Second Nature * Stacy Wheeler -- RecycleMania Jenny McNamara and Anthony Hair -- Portland State University Portland State University has set a goal to reduce embodied emissions for select commodities by 25% (2008 baseline). This presentation will cover how PSU is planning to utilize and refine data collected for embodied emissions; modify food purchasing contract requirements; evaluate opportunities to increase low carbon food purchases; establish formal relationships with reuse organization; and institute paper-reduction and awareness campaign. Brett Pasinella -- Second Nature Your campus waste disposal and waste management practices impact your carbon footprint. Throwing things away involves energy consumption and additional releases of carbon dioxide. If the end point for your campus garbage and trash is a landfill, methane will be produced through decomposition. While not a major source of emission, tracking and accounting for the GHG's from your campus's waste hauling is a good way of connecting waste management programs to other climate initiatives so that stockholders can see how all the different aspects of sustainability overlap. Stacy Wheeler -- RecycleMania One of the easiest credits you can use toward your climate action plan is to participate in RecycleMania because of course, you're already collecting data. An amazing thing happens as some campuses start to look at the data they submitted to RecycleMania. They see campus recycling in a different light and discover new ways to utilize this information to better manage campus areas. RecycleMania is a fun and friendly competition that offers colleges/universities a variety of resources to help sustainability coordinators promote locally the reduction of GHG and materials waste on campus. _______________________________________________________________ The 2015 CURC Webinar Series is made possible by: [http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs114/1102801309258/img/300.png] The 2015 CURC Webinar Series Partners [http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs114/1102801309258/img/283.jpg] [New AASHE logo] Access the CURC Webinar Series Archive and other technical resources at curc3r.org Forward email [http://img.constantcontact.com/letters/images/SafeUnsubscribe_Footer_Logo_New.png] This email was sent to ilda.hershey at okstate.edu by admin at curc3r.org | Update Profile/Email Address | Rapid removal with SafeUnsubscribe? | Privacy Policy.
