Ideally, the schools would use their own title II funds to pay for the
substitutes in order to provide the best leverage within the entire state's
title II scheme; however, very nice that ECU's GEAR UP program is poised to
do so.

We also sent flyers to individual teachers, but we only sent them out once,
and
we relied on word-of-mouth as well.
Something I just found out today (too late for this year, but will be
valuable
for next year) is that our Gear Up program will help us advertise our
workshop.
In fact, they will pay any fees associated with professional development
activities for teachers from the schools in their program. We have no fees
that
they must pay to attend our workshop, but their schools must agree to
provide
substitutes and allow them to participate in the follow-ups and must also
agree
to provide a certain amount of classroom materials for them in the fall to
assist them with implementing the ideas and activities they learn at our
workshop. The Gear Up program can pay this for the schools in their program.
A lady from the program told me today that I should send her information
about
our workshop and they will encourage teachers from these schools to
participate
next year.
