Oklahoma's focus will center on professional development for college faculty with the goal to enhance the curriculum and instruction experienced by students enrolled in mathematics and science coursework required for a teaching degree. In order to make the best use of available technology, this special RFP for 2002 is available through the Oklahoma State Regents' Website at http://okhighered.org under the Administrators, Faculty, and Staff Section. I have also attached the RFP for your convenience. The deadline for submission is March 15, 2002. Learning from our experience with the state wide GEAR UP proposal, we recognize the need and importance to coordinate efforts in the state among those entities who may also be anticipating submitting targeted awards or who may be interested in collaborating on the comprehensive proposal. In GEAR UP, we fully believe that our state's resounding success was because of the tangible evidence of collaboration, non-duplication, and ensuring that state level and partnership level activities keyed off each other. With the MSP program, it is likely that Oklahoma will be more successful if comprehensive and targeted grant programs function in the same way. We would like to invite the program leaders of any entities who are interested in the comprehensive or related targeted award to attend a planning meeting on Monday, February 25 from 10 AM to 2 PM in the Regents' library on the 2nd floor of the new State Regents building (Research Building #3, 655 Research Parkway) located on Lincoln Boulevard between 4th and 8th Streets. Please plan to bring a brown bag lunch or lunch can be purchased and brought in. It is important that Oklahoma prepare a proposal reflecting the coordination and collaboration of all the entities in the state to have the best possible chance to secure necessary funding to provide the students and teachers with the best math and science education in the nation. Please contact me to inform us of your intentions or interest in this grant opportunity and to RSVP regarding the planning meeting on Monday, February 25th. As usual, there is little time until the final proposal is due. Any information or abstracts that you would like to share during this meeting would be appreciated in advance. Due to the NCTM Regional Conference in OKC on February 21-23, I may be hard to reach to answer any questions. I will be reading email each evening. The conference was held on the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus. The title of her presentation was "ENC: Great Resources for Time-Challenged Math-Enthusiastic Teachers" Using a hot connection to the internet she demonstrated the wide array of resources in mathematics available to classroom teachers from the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse website [http://www.enc.org/] . For the conference, and after, she created a temporary webpage that allows teachers at the conference, and others too, to easily find the links of interest that she used during the presentation. The page is available at http://www.enc.org/conferences/ictmss.htm . The page represents a virtual handout for Gail's keynote presentation. Those who attended the conference may find the resource useful and helpful, and others might want to browse the website. It will be available for at least one month for those who would like to click onto the website and "see" Gail's presentation. ---------------------- Gail's e-mail address is . ************************************************ -- Jerry P.
