As some of you may know, our new President began work this week here at CSC. Dr. Tim Faltyn is CSC's new President and is interested in doing some very exciting things here which means I have some work to do! I have a few questions that I hope some of you might be able to answer: 1. Does anyone have an example of a Webmaster job description that you have used in the past? We've never had a dedicated position for this function and are looking to expand so if anyone can provide any details on what they have required or recommended for this type of position, I would greatly appreciate it. 2. Does anyone utilize dedicated phones in classrooms for emergency use? We are looking into implementing a campus-wide push for VoIP phones in each classrooms for emergency usage only. This would require us to lock down the phone to a specific subset of emergency numbers and I was wondering if anyone has done this and if so, how did you approach it? 3. On the same security note, we are investigating automatic door locking mechanisms for building entrances and exits. Does anyone have any words of wisdom in this regard? We're not yet sure of the extent that these might be implemented across our campuses but if you have a vendor to suggest or any cautionary advice, I will appreciate all the help I can get. 4. Lastly, we have quite a few brown-outs and occasional black-outs down here in this part of the state which has prompted us to think about alternatives for our electrical power. One option we have been investigating is that of using a secondary utility company for power to campus so that we will have one primary and one failover. We are close enough that we have access to a second utility company for backup electrical power and I was interested to see if anyone has ever gone this route or thought of going this route? As always, thanks ahead of time for any information you can provide. Thank you and have a great weekend. Message-ID: <013601cc456c$eb780e40$c2682ac0$@edu> Hello all, Do any of you use a mapping software package to develop maps, for example to show where your students are coming from? In the past, I have used MapLand, which is an Excel add-in. But there seem to be several products out there which aren't as pricey which might be able to fulfill our reporting needs. Would you please let me know what you have used and whether or not it requires Excel or is a stand-alone product? Thanks! Lynn J.
