This is a completely inappropriate use of this listserv but since when
have I been appropriate?
You all know I think I am the most ardent OU Women's basketball fan in
existence (I almost said "biggest" but there's this really, really large
retired business professor that sits on the east side that has 2
seats....). Well, I'm also a member of the OU FastBreak Club, the
booster club for OU Women's Basketball. Each year, we have a golf
tournament in April to help fund the team expenses. This year, our goal
is to raise enough money to endow one of the scholarships for our
players. OU is well on the way to being the first women's Division I
team in the country to have endowments, not current revenue, fund the
cost of each player's scholarship, and the Fast Break Club wants to be a
sponsor of one of those endowments.
So, what do I want?
I want you to play in the tournament if you can ($150 per person).
I want you to get your employers to be Individual Hole Sponsors ($300
per person) or Corporate Hole Sponsors ($500, no playing required).
I want your employers to donate prizes they can give to players for the
Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive (Man and Woman), Two Low Gross Teams,
Two Low Net Teams. (I offered my Commerce Bank Happy Birthday Pen but
they didn't bite.)
And, I want you to do this not because I asked but because you
understand what an exceptional coach Sherri Coale is and what
exceptional human beings this program produces. I absolutely love these
young women for no reason other than the fact that they play their
hearts AND guts out every year and they ask nothing of me but to watch
them do it....which is a privilege.
I won't know if you contributed or not. What you do or don't do won't
affect our working relationship. But, you ARE the people that I know
who have the most resources to support something like this....and I also
know your coffers are pretty tapped, given the fee issues going on. I
also know some of you are golfers (I didn't say GOOD golfers, I just
said "golfers").
If you participate, you'll get the chance to meet Coach Coale (she's
even prettier in person) and some of the players and you'll have a
really good time. If you're interested, I can email you the tournament
application (Due April 24) or send it by postal mail. (I'm rude enough
to use the listserv for this message, but not so rude as to hog OneNet
bandwidth with an attachment).
Thanks for listening!
