I include a photo release statement with all participation forms:  registrations, vendors, sponsors, etc. 

I also do what was mentioned with a verbal acknowledgement that it may show-up on social media while asking for permission to take photo. 

Lastly, I have created a lanyard "press credentials" for any volunteers photographers enlisted for an event.  The back of the tag included my contact information, the facebook page, etc.

At your bigger events, how do you go about taking the pics? Do you post signs that photos are being taken? Do you just ask after?
