I hope everyone is well rested and ready to get 2022 underway. That being said, we have a Wines of Winter event that was put in the Rework pile. We would like to appeal to more people with a downtown Date Night of sorts without all the wine, with the new laws it makes purchasing the wine more difficult and only appeals to wine drinkers. We would like to keep it as a retail event. Does anyone have any ideas for me? TIA Jamie Hale Director Tahlequah Main Street Association, Inc. 504 N. If we are purchasing items not for resale, vendors will charge sales tax on those items. So things like office supplies are taxable but if we are purchasing t-shirts for a fundraiser, we are *not* charged sales tax. Hope this helps! [icon] Cultural District Presentation 2022.pptx Good afternoon Main Street, Molly O'Connor sent her presentation as well as more information - Attached is the presentation. Also, here is the link for the program: https://arts.ok.gov/Our_Programs/Cultural_District.html For any community that is interested in applying for the Cultural District program, the Letter of Intent is due on February 15th. I am doubtful that Cayla will be back in the office before then, so I will be the person responding to any inquiries. I welcome any phone calls or emails from individuals who want to learn more! In fact, even if people do not feel ready to apply for the program this year, I encourage them to reach out so that they have the information to prepare (or share with others in their community). Also, I mentioned the Rural Opportunity Development Grant, which I hope we will have online later this week. I will be sure to send that information to all of you. In addition to these opportunities, we can fund arts and cultural events (exhibits, festivals, performances) presented by Main Streets though our Small Grant Support program. The nice thing about our small grants is the deadline is rolling (30 days before the beginning of the project) and an organization can request up to 3 separate grants of up to $2500 each per fiscal year. I just did a quick search and found a few recent examples: 1. Main Street Guymon - The Guymon Fiesta is annual event, first begun 25 years ago by the City of Guymon and picked up by Main Street Guymon six years ago at the request of the City. It is a time to learn about and celebrate the Hispanic population in our community, the majority population at this time during National Hispanic Heritage Month. 2. Stockyards City Main Street -- The Stockyards Stampede event is a celebration of the western and agricultural heritage of the area. The grant request is specifically to support the Main Stage entertainment and infrastructure. 3. Newkirk Main Street - Charlie Adams Day celebrates Newkirk's Native American & pioneer heritage by utilizing a mix of current & historic elements. BBQ & Dutch oven cooking demonstrations & period historical entertainment are used to highlight our roots. Current entertainment by local artists, is used as a celebration of our tenacity. Named for an early pharmacist, we use his life and times to base our event in history. 4. El Reno Main Street - We are bringing music to "The Rock District" in downtown El Reno. El Reno Main Street goal is to bring the community together and to share different genre's of music (Country, Blues, Rock, Hispanic), while encouraging the youth to share their talents as well. 5. Main Street Enid (2015) - The FLY Film Festival celebrates the art of filmmaking and inspires creativity by providing learning opportunities and showcasing Films Like Yours in downtown Enid, Oklahoma. Here are the basics on the Small Grant Guidelines: https://arts.ok.gov/Arts_in_Communities/Community_Arts_Grant.html Molly O'Connor Assistant Director Oklahoma Arts Council PO Box 52001-2001 Oklahoma City, OK 73152-2001 405.521.2013 molly.oconnor at arts.ok.gov arts.ok.gov [cid:image001.png at 01D807D0.7C2214F0] Have a good evening, Buffy Buffy Hughes | State Main Street Director Oklahoma Main Street Center | Oklahoma Department of Commerce Buffy.Hughes at okcommerce.gov p. 405-815-5249 | c. 405-664-1260 okcommerce.gov [signature_168929643] -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The rules for the program were revised so that it's easier to apply. For example, donated service can now be used as a match and applicants do not have to be National Trust Forum members to apply. Just about any planning or education program can qualify, as long as it relates to historic properties and appropriate preservation. The next deadline is February 1, but there are deadlines on June 1 and October 1 too. The Oklahoma fund has been available for many years, and the Trust has always had difficulty generating applications. Grants range from about $2,500 - $5,000 and require a 50/50 match. Trust staff can be reached at grants at savingplaces.org. They are happy to discuss project ideas and review budgets before an application is submitted.
