NEW PRESERVATION BRIEF ON METAL CEILINGS AND WALLS
The National Park Service/Technical Preservation Services just released Preservation Brief #49: Historic Decorative Metal Ceilings and Walls: Use, Repair, and Replacement. Kaaren R. Steveteig, long-time TPS staff member, authored the brief.
Preservation Brief #49 deals with an important historic material commonly found in buildings throughout the country. The information will be of interest to the varied audience involved in the preservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings, particularly since little has been written on the subject. It provides a brief history of decorative metal for wall and ceiling applications; provides information on appropriate maintenance and repair work; describes methods for paint removal; and includes guidance on replacement.
Preservation Brief #49 is available in pdf format at www.nps.gov/tps and in print form from the Government Printing Office. Order from GPO at https://bookstore.gpo.gov/ where you can find the brief and other printed TPS publications for sale.
NPS/TPS hopes you will find the publication useful in your ongoing work to preserve and protect our nation's historic cultural resources.
The SHPO has a limited supply of Preservation Brief #49, and single copies are available to Oklahoma Preservationists on a first-come basis.
