Look what wonderful attachments I brought to you this fine day! That's right, it is the wonderful Annual Agreements! So they are due July 14th. If you are a associate program, you will pick the second attachment listed "2017 Associate Mainstreet agreement". Everyone else that is a designated program, you will pick the third attachment listed "2017 graduate agreement". Wagoner, you will need to wait as we have a special one that we are getting for you since you are making the transition from Associate to Designated. First of all, if you are new and need some help in walking you through the agreement, give any of us a call or I can do a visit if needed. You will find that the first few pages are the Annual Agreement. That is the most important part and needs to be sent to us by July 14th. After that is a checklist that tells you everything else that needs to be submitted. I want to tell you right now you will probably want to get your resolution started. That is a document you will find a sample of in the packet. That is the document showing that the city supports the program. Those can take a while and you should get it to them as soon as possible. The first attachment is a Customer Satisfaction Survey. You can fill up to 10 surveys from 10 different people. They are worth 1 point each with a maximum of 10 quality assurance points. Again, if there are any questions, please contact us. Thank you. Enjoy!! J Norma Miess, our National Main Street Liaison will be on hand to lead the training. Attached is a copy of the Main Street 4 Point Framework that she developed. Thursday we will use the worksheets to look at current efforts to confirm focus (across the board and within each of the 4-Points), and discuss opportunities to increase balance and build efficiencies. This is part of the Refresh approach, and it would appreciated if the worksheets were filled out prior to the training. List all the projects under each of the 4-points on the first tab, and then (in the 2nd tab), organize them within each point and area of focus. Norma is happy to answer any questions regarding the worksheet, so feel free to contact her. We will also talk about Catalyst and Transformation Strategies. The National Register of Historic Places is our nation's official list of properties significant in our past. The Harrison School is located at 212 West Birch Avenue in Enid, Garfield County. The school is an excellent example of an early 20th-century primary school that evolved to meet the tenets of the Progressive Era educational movement. Designed by Enid architect R. W. Shaw, the building is also an outstanding example of the Collegiate Gothic style. The Ozark Trail-Indian Meridian Obelisk, located in Langston, Logan County, was constructed in 1922. The monument served as a waypoint when traveling along the Ozark Trail. It is significant at the state level for its promotion of early automobile highways in Oklahoma. Listing in the National Register is an honorific designation that provides recognition, limited protection and, in some cases, financial incentives for these important properties. The SHPO identifies, evaluates and nominates properties for this special designation. The State Historic Preservation Office is a division of the Oklahoma Historical Society. The mission of the Oklahoma Historical Society is to collect, preserve and share the history and culture of the state of Oklahoma. Founded in 1893 by members of the Territorial Press Association, the OHS maintains museums, historic sites and affiliates across the state. Through its research archives, exhibits, educational programs and publications the OHS chronicles the rich history of Oklahoma. For more information please visit www.okhistory.org. ### Editor's Note: Photographs to accompany the story can be acquired by contacting the State Historic Preservation Office at 405-521-6249. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Main Street is a public/private partnership, and revitalization is the responsibility of both sectors. Neither can, or should, support the revitalization initiative single-handedly. Any organization, agency, or individual who might benefit from the district’s revitalization should consider investing the program. Actually, the Main Street program lessens the burden on local government to “turn around downtown” or reinvigorate the district because the Executive Director is generally the sole paid employee. You help mobilize a small army of volunteers who take on revitalization for free. Can you imagine what the cost would be to the city for all the work you, the board, the committees, and volunteers do? Oklahoma’s ROI is $120 to $1, and the city is getting a heck of a deal. Community Size: 38,000 City Investment: $60,000 ($30,000 at first with a $30,000 additional amount based on matching funds) City Investment: In-kind would amount to about $10,000 % of Overall Budget: Approximately 20% - 30% Has remained about the same, although the matching amount is new The City should always take ownership of a portion of the Downtown revitalization program, after all it is the revitalization of the downtown that creates the Heart and Soul of the community. When Newkirk first started the program, the City's investment was 1/2 of our budget of $20,000 at $10,000 - Over the years our budget has increased because we do more projects etc and we have never asked for more than the $10,000. But I think the ratio should be 1/3 from City; 1/3 from membership and 1/3 from fundraisers. Have you ever shown them the ratio of reinvestment to their investment? They, honestly, could not have a better investment than Main Street! We are worth our weight in gold. Karen Dye Newkirk Main Street 116 N. Main - P.O. I sent the email below a little while ago, and I didn't get any response. Therefore, I told KOB that the presentation wasn't possible. Larissa then asked if I, or anyone else, would present on "Fresh Paint Days." I know many of our Main Streets have taken advantage of the program. If you don't want to present, please send me some photos and a narrative, and I will craft a presentation. There are quality assurance points available for speaking. Keep Oklahoma Beautiful is having their annual Affiliate Forum on Friday, July 28th from 10-4 at the Chesapeake Boathouse. KOB is particularly interested in Main Street projects that utilized their Affiliates (list attached), and how it impacted the district. Some of our Main Streets (Cherokee, Newkirk, Pryor, and Wagoner) are Affiliates. Please let me know if you have projects, and if you want to speak at the Forum. Also, I'm happy to speak about any project if you can't make it. Your help is greatly appreciated.
