Meetups
July 11 Afternoon: Blue Whale of Catoosa<http://bluewhaleroute66.com/> (2600 Route 66, Catoosa, OK 74015). Built as a surprise anniversary gift by Hugh Davis to his wife Zelta, the Blue Whale has become one of the most recognizable attractions on Route 66. No visit is complete without a climb up the ladder into the whale's head.
July 12 Morning: Meadow Gold Sign<https://www.ncptt.nps.gov/rt66/grants/projects/view/63> (1324 East 11th St., Tulsa, OK 74120). This Route 66 success story is an iconic neon sign that once advertised dairy products as part of the Beatrice Foods Company, beginning in the 1940s.
July 12 Afternoon: The Blue Dome<http://bluedomedistrict.com/> (202 South Elgin Ave., Tulsa, OK 74120). The Blue Dome, a historic district in Tulsa, features an array of vibrant restaurants, shops, and local landmarks-many of which we'll be visiting during this colorful meetup.
July 13 Evening: POPS<http://www.pops66.com/> (606 OK-66, Arcadia, OK 73007). Admire the 4-ton, 66-foot-tall neon soda bottle, then stop in and take a sip of over 700 flavors of soda pop at this renowned Oklahoma restaurant.
July 14 Morning: Sonic Drive-In<https://www.sonicdrivein.com/> (Oklahoma City, OK). Exact location TBD. The largest chain of drive-in fast-food restaurants, Sonic is best known for its unique carhop service style. The restaurant chain was founded in 1953 by Troy Smith, and today, it is emblematic of Route 66's quirky diner culture.
July 15 Evening: Oklahoma Route 66 Museum<http://www.okhistory.org/sites/route66.php> (2229 West Gary Blvd., Clinton, OK 73601). This bright museum offers visitors a small slice of Route 66's rich flavor. Take a journey through the history of the nation's most beloved highway, and encounter the famous ideas, images, and myths of The Mother Road.
July 17 Afternoon: Old Town Museum Complex<http://visitelkcity.com/museums.aspx> (2717 West 3rd St., Elk City, OK 73644). The Old Town Museum Complex not only includes a glimpse into historic Route 66, it also explores early pioneer life in Oklahoma, and shows audiences the tools of the trade for early farmers, ranchers, and even blacksmiths living out west.
