The grant funding will be utilized to assist State agencies in providing training for CACFP operators on ways to plan and prepare nutritious foods that contribute to the wellness, growth, and development of children, and the health and wellness of older adults and chronically impaired disabled persons.

2.       HUD in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has announced $13.7 million in grant funding to modify or rehabilitate eligible veterans' primary residences. Eligible applicants for the Veterans Housing Rehabilitation and Modification Pilot Program are nonprofit organizations that provide nationwide or statewide programs that primarily serve veterans or low-income individuals. BANK OF AMERICA CHARITABLE FOUNDATION is offering grants to nonprofit organizations as they work to preserve and increase access to a mix of affordable housing options and connect individuals and families with the tools and resources to achieve their financial goals. U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR has announced the availability of funding to support employment and training activities for Indians and Native Americans in the areas of healthcare, manufacturing, IT, energy, and other industries. Disaster Response Resources for Artists, Arts Organizations:  With recent wildfires affecting thousands of Oklahomans and tornado season quickly approaching, spring is a good time for artists and organizations to review their plans for protecting their work. 7.       Deadlines Approaching for Two NEA Grant Programs Two grant programs of the National Endowment for the Arts<https://t.e2ma.net/click/50njbb/t3tssp/9rf22h> have upcoming deadlines. Oklahoma organizations presenting arts and cultural programs or planning creative place-based design projects are encouraged to apply. Deadlines are approaching in two grant categories:

*         Art Works<https://t.e2ma.net/click/50njbb/t3tssp/pkg22h> - grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 are available to support a wide variety of activities across disciplines. Deadline to apply for an Art Works grant is July 12.

*         Our Town<https://t.e2ma.net/click/50njbb/t3tssp/5ch22h> - grants ranging from $25,000 to $200,000 can support the engagement, planning, and design of projects that feature art and cultural assets as tools for improving quality of life in communities. A partnership between a nonprofit organization and a local government entity is required. Deadline to apply for an Our Town grant is August 9. 8.       Grants of up to $10,000 are available to artists working in photography and photo-based art through the Aaron Siskind Foundation's Individual Photographer's Fellowship Grant<https://t.e2ma.net/click/50njbb/t3tssp/hqj22h> program.
Recipients will be selected by a panel of judges based on artistic excellence, accomplishments, and the promise of future achievement in the medium of photography. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.

9.       RURAL LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation) created the Community Facilities Fund to provide capital to help develop and improve essential community facilities in rural areas. Rural LISC utilizes this fund to provide permanent and construction-to- permanent financing for rural community facilities, including health care centers, hospitals, educational facilities, and other nonprofit and public facilities in rural communities with populations under 20,000. 10.   USDA is offering grants through the Distance Learning and Telemedicine program that provides support to improve telemedicine and distance learning services in rural areas through the use of telecommunications, computer networks, and related advanced technologies that students, teachers, medical professionals, and rural residents can use. 11.   THE LOWE'S COMMUNITY PARTNERS grant program supports nonprofit organizations and local municipalities undertaking high-need projects such as building renovations and upgrades, grounds improvements, technology upgrades, and safety improvements. Grants range from $2,001 to $100,000. Deadlines for 2018: 5/11/2018 and 8/24/2018. 12.   USDA is offering grants through the Community Connect program. Deadline: applications are due 5/14/2018. This program helps fund broadband deployment into rural communities where it is not yet economically viable for private sector providers to deliver service. 13.   THE MY BROTHER'S KEEPER (MBK) COMMUNITY CHALLENGE is a national competition offering grants to identify several cities, towns, counties, and Tribal Nations that have the potential to substantially improve life outcomes for boys and young men of color, especially outcomes related to reducing youth violence and growing the pipeline of mentors. The Challenge is seeking to work in partnership with communities that can identify and implement evidence-based programs and a specific goal over two years to reduce youth violence or leverage mentors to address milestone-specific challenges. Two categories of grants, ranging from $25,000 to $500,000, are being offered. Eligible grantees are high-performing U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations with strong leadership and a track record of success in driving collective impact efforts locally, initiating program development, and expanding policies and practices that enhance equity and opportunity for boys and young men of color. 14.   BEST BUY is offering grants through its Community Grants Program provides support to community-based organizations that are located within 25 miles of a Best Buy facility. Grants focus on out-of-school time programs that create access to technology education and tools that teens will need to be successful in their future schooling and careers. Programs should include hands-on learning opportunities and engage the youth, ages 13-18, in experimenting and interacting with the latest technologies to build 21st century skills. 15.   HUD has announced the availability of funding for the Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant Program to create and/or implement a plan to revitalize distressed HUD housing; improve outcomes of households living in the target housing related to employment, income, health, and education; and encourage public and private reinvestment in distressed neighborhoods to improve safety, schools, and commercial activity. THE ROCKEFELLER FOUNDATION AND THE CHAN ZUCKERBERG INITIATIVE have announced the availability of funding through the Communities Thrive Challenge, a $10 million funding opportunity to find and support successful, community-driven approaches to expand economic opportunity for low-income and financially insecure people and communities across the U.S. Up to 10 grantees will receive a $1M grant, best-in-class technical assistance, and an opportunity to share their story on a national stage. 17.    FARMER'S INSURANCE is offering grants through its "Thank America's Teachers" program. Five $100,000 grants will be awarded to fund K-12 teachers' educational visions for their classrooms and communities in 2018. (Thank America's Teachers also provides $2,500 grants to teachers throughout the year.) The Dream Big Teacher Challenge contest funds programs like an outdoor learning center, an accessible playground for special needs students, and a student mentorship program with local business leaders. 3.       "A Compass for Families: Head Start in Rural America Report" details the importance of Head Start programs to rural communities. The report details the services Head Start provides for rural families, such as child care, connection to health services, and transportation, among others, and features county level data and rural-urban comparisons. 4.       Planners4Health has published "Emergency Preparedness and Recovery: A Toolkit for Rural Communities" that provides information and resources to assist a long term recovery group (LTRG) responding to a disaster and implementing recovery plans in a rural community. 6.       Lessons from the Kresge Foundation's Journey to Creative Placemaking - the integration of arts, culture, and resident-engaged design into community development and planning - are highlighted in a series of white papers launched recently by the Foundation's Arts & Culture Program. The papers are geared toward helping grantmakers and creative placemaking practitioners more successfully integrate arts and culture into community development. 7.       USDA has published a map, "Rural Child Poverty Was Most Concentrated in the Mississippi Delta" showing average child poverty rates for rural counties based on 2012-2016 American Community Survey data. 8.       To understand the role museums play in our economy, the Mellon Foundation supported a study by the American Alliance of Museums and Oxford Economics called "Museums as Economic Engines: A National Report." The report says that museums serve as economic engines, contributing $50 billion to the U.S. GDP, providing hundreds of thousands of jobs and generating billions of dollars in tax revenues across the country. 10.    Picture the Homeless has released their latest policy report. "The Business of Homelessness: Financial & Human Costs of the Shelter-Industrial Complex" is the result of a year-long investigation into the fiscal policies and priorities that influence the lives of homeless New Yorkers, and how those priorities could be adjusted to support permanent, stable, and decent housing.
