Vicki and Group,

This is Ron from the Advisory Board. This sounds like a great training. Melyn and the fine folks in Guymon always provide great experiences for all us "Downstaters" whether it is a training or a whole statewide preservation conference. This sounds like a great road trip for everyone.

I was at the AIA Oklahoma Conference on Architecture in Enid while all of you were in Guymon. This conference used to always happen in Stillwater. In the past few years, it starting moving to other Oklahoma towns. As part of the conference activities, Kelly Tompkins and Cameron Kaiser led a great architectural tour around the Garfield County Courthouse Square in cold temperatures and horizontal rain. About a dozen hearty architect types took it all in. Great job! The following day, Enid architects and Main Street Enid supporters, John and Kingkini Arend, led a great mid-century modern house tour through the neighborhoods. The architects loved exploring Enid. (The opening reception was held at Leonardo's Children's Museum....fun place for architects to play.)

Last week, I was at the 2018 Oklahoma Recreation and Parks Society Conference that was held here in Norman. Any group that has a tag line "Play Well" just has to be fun. This group discussed the importance of parks and playgrounds and recreational facilities in communities (possibly a future training topic for everyone). At the silent auction was a super basket for the Rock-N-Rumble event in downtown Altus. I was the fortunate bidder. We look forward to the trip to Altus in May, Amy!

As more people and groups "discover" towns outside the big, metro areas, the Oklahoma Main Street towns continue to provide great experiences. Please keep up the great work-in Guymon and throughout Downstate. Y'all are capturing the attention of many who appreciate the quality and authenticity of your bustling downtowns.

Ron

I agree with all. I had heard many comments about the distance to Guymon, how "remote" it was, and that there was nothing there.
Well, they were definitely mistaken. I found a warm welcome wherever I went and feel that you all just rolled out the red carpet for us.
Thank you, Melyn and Downtown Guymon for being wonderful hosts for our training and sharing your great community. The distance was worth it!

Vicki

Melyn, I tip my hat to you for one of the best town overall experiences EVER. All the effort you put into letting us see the heart of your town/community is noted - and appreciated.
