[National Main Street Center] Coordinator Community Post New Message via Email Reporting on Business and Job Changes Reply All via Email [Kathy La Plante] Apr 9, 2020 4:12 PM Kathy La Plante Coordinators – We have received a number of inquiries relating to Annual Reporting and how communities should be reporting statistics during this pandemic and wanted to provide some guidance. The two areas that are most impacted are businesses and job gains/losses and for both, communities should be tracking as they regularly would (January and February may have had gains), however when considering what to count, communities should only consider a business lost if they have closed permanently (physically left the building and are no longer paying rent for the space). Thus if they are closed temporarily (many have been closed for 2-3 weeks at this point due to COVID-19), they should not be counted as businesses or job lost, at this time. By the end of 2020 we hope that communities stats will show the true impact of the pandemic and will want an accurate count then. We would still encourage your communities to monitor and track these businesses in the coming months, so they know what is happening locally, but for reporting purposes now, they do not need to try and provide business and job losses until they know they have been permanently lost. Thank you and stay well!
