Pam -

We print expulsions on transcripts only for those students who were expelled for academic misconduct.  We post nothing for students who are expelled for non-academic violations/situations on campus.  There are no state or federal requirements for this that I am aware of, but we typically attempt to follow the guidelines in the AACRAO Academic Record and Transcript Guide.  In that guide, however, they leave that particular posting up to the institution, but do not recommend posting those expulsions as a rule, and certainly not for non-academic reasons.

Does this leave you with a lot of missing biographical information?  We used to ask the information on the enrollment card.   Now that we have so many people enrolling on-line, we don?t collect that information there.

We also ask, but it is optional.  Something else to consider...when it
is left blank, it is difficult to have solid statistics when you are
applying for grants. Typically underserved populations are hesitant to
self-identify, leaving us in a catch 22 situation.

Rick brings up a good point.  We actually did a targeted mailing to the non-responders to get ethnic/race information.  We stressed that responding was optional, but their responses could help Redlands qualify for grants to offer more services to students.

Ours is optional too, and we code them as ?decline to identify? if they leave it blank.  I can?t forsee being able to remove the question, however, as we are required to submit ethnicity information for numerous reports like IPEDS that are tied to our federal funding and the admissions application seems like the most convenient way to collect it. We generally only have 1 or 2 students each year who don?t respond to the question.

Greetings!  I hope this e-mail finds you doing well.  This e-mail is to serve as an update pertaining to the use of the residual ACT for concurrent enrollment student admission.  Following the OACRAO spring conference, State Regents staff debriefed and discussed the issue internally examining all perspectives.

 

At the March 24th meeting, the Council on Instruction (COI) was briefed on the concerns articulated by both the State Regents staff and the OACRAO membership pertaining to the residual ACT for concurrent enrollment admission.  The committee on assessment and remediation has introduced this issue for discussion in conjunction with their ongoing discussion pertaining to the assessment and remediation policy, which is currently under revision.  

 

Please note, as Dr. Blanke and I mentioned at the spring conference, due to the complex nature of the situation, a time-frame is unknown for when a final interpretation of policy will be available.
