These are three semester hour courses generally taken by education majors. Most of our transfer universities have language in the catalog that is similar or identical to these: >From OU's online advisement site: All teacher candidates must demonstrate that they are proficient at the novice-high level in a language other than English. This can be demonstrated by passing the proficiency exam or by completing the first two college level courses in a foreign language. American Sign Language counts as a foreign language. >From NSU's site: How do I meet the foreign language proficiency requirement? Candidates admitted to the Teacher Education Program must demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language at the high novice level prior to graduation with at least a "C" or better. Possible courses are but not limited to the following: Spanish, German, Chinese, Cherokee, and American Sign Language. Candidate may be a native speak and can arrange testing to determine proficiency levels.
