Subject: [Oacrao-l] FW: Academic forgiveness and Academic reprieve

We have highlighted sections of the Oklahoma State Regents academic forgiveness policy that we would like to have input on from other colleges and universities. Below are some of the questions we have:

1. Repeated Courses - the policy states that a maximum of four courses (not to exceed 18 hours) are allowed.

a. How is each institution set up to determine the number of courses that have been repeated?
Students may repeat as many courses as they want but only the first four repeats of a D or F are forgiven and excluded from the Ret/Grad gpa. This excludes any courses repeated more than once (the first is forgiven if it was a D/F and the second and subsequent repeats are averaged together). Our SIS (Jenzabar PX) calculates the number of repeats that are forgiven automatically.

b. Are the repeated four course maximum set for the student's academic career or per institution?
The four course maximum is per academic career.

2. Academic Reprieve

a. How is the three year requirement calculated? For example, if a student wanted to reprieve their Spring 2013 term, would they be able to request this in January 2016 or May 2016?
We use the completion of 3 years so for Spring 2013 term, we would wait until May 2016.

b. Does the GPA of 2.0 or better, along with a minimum of 12 hours, need to be completed since the semester being requested reprieved? Does the student have to complete these hours at the same school they are requesting the reprieve from?
We look for a "C" or better in all course work since the semester requested for the reprieve with a minimum of 12 hours of regularly graded work required. This work may be taken anywhere but the student must be enrolled at SE before we grant a reprieve.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
