Hi Alan,
Southeastern only makes a special notation on the transcript when graduating students are approved as an "Honors Program Graduate" or "Honors Program Participant." This is for those who were members in the SE honors program and completed all requirements for this distinction. We do not record any other affiliation or membership on the transcript.
Our Academic Affairs office requested the "honors program" notation many years ago when they reorganized that program. They also requested that courses taken for honors credit have a special designation on the transcript.
I'm not aware of any state limitation on recording these on the transcript.
We routinely see notations for PTK and honor roll awards on transcripts from other schools. I have considered recording Dean's and President's Honor Roll on the SE transcript but haven't given in to that yet.

Subject: [Oacrao-l] Honorary Organizations and Official Transcripts
I know we have beat this horse into the ground over the years, but I thought I might throw the question out there again as I have a faculty member asking some questions concerning Honorary Organizations noted on our transcript. I have historically not marked anything on our transcript outside of a small note at the bottom of our transcript in association with Phi Theta Kappa participation.
I primarily did that as PTK were taking liberties in placing stamps and other items on the transcript which I thought was too much and was not in conjunction with AACRAO's view of what should be on an official transcript. A few years back I agreed to avoid large stamps or notations being placed on our document by placing a small notation of participation at the bottom of our document. The person I worked with indicated this would not open the doors for all organizations to want a notation. But, here we are with that question being asked.
Now to my questions...are there any institutions out there that note all Honorary Organization achievements/participation on their official transcript?
If so, on what basis do you feel compelled to make note of this data element? In other words, is the notation based upon your own personal views or is it institutional policy that leads you to make note of this item?
Is there a state limitation within policy for these items being placed on the transcript?
I did review AACRAO's publication associated with the official transcript and they indicate that Honorary Organizations and achievements should not be placed on an institution's transcript.
Thanks in advance for your responses!
Alan
