I would appreciate any feedback on the statement below. I know that we are all involved with end of term duties, so, your responses are especially appreciated. *Position*: My VP is considering placing the statement below into our new *Online Application for Admissions* with the goal of anticipating future Reverse Transfer needs. In essence, students can either ?Opt In? or ?Opt Out? and give the Registrar?s Office permission (or no permission) to request their official transcript at a future date from another college/university. *Opt In Statement: ?In order to help our students earn their degrees, Carl Albert State College participates in reverse transfer agreements with numerous institutions. By selecting this option, you allow CASC to contact other institutions to request transcript information and verify student standing in order for CASC to issue an Associates Degree to you ...?* *Questions*: My questions to the membership are this: 1) is such an Opt In statement sufficient for your institution to mail a student?s official transcript to CASC, 2) do you feel FERPA requirements are met with such an Opt In statement, 3) are there other ways you might suggest to accomplish the same goal, and 4) is this necessary/appropriate for a college to address this type of future need? Sorry, it didn't copy all that cleanly. Paul 3.8 RELATIVES AS STUDENTS As a matter of sound judgment and professional ethics, faculty members have a responsibility to avoid any apparent or actual conflict between their professional responsibilities and personal interests. It is the responsibility of faculty members to avoid being placed in a position of authority - by virtue of their specific immediate family members or relatives such as nephew and niece. 3-12 Version 2015/16 Relatives that are within the third degree of relationship to an employee by blood or marriage are as follows: spouse, parent; grandparent; great-grandparents; parent, grandparent or great- grandparent of spouse; uncle or aunt; uncle or aunt of spouse; brother or sister; son or daughter; son-in-law or daughter-in-law; grandson or granddaughter or their spouse; and great-grandson or great-granddaughter or their spouse. Relative also includes individuals involved in a close per- sonal relationship that might affect the objectivity of each partner toward the other, e.g. "significant others," cohabitants or domestic partners. These professional constraints are necessary in order to ensure that the evaluation of students is conducted fairly and without any perception of favoritism or bias. ( Section 5.12 RUSO ) . If a relative becomes a student, the following process must be followed: a. Notify the chair/school director of the department/school that a relative is enrolled in the class, is an RA/TA, or student worker. Present a plan for evaluation of the student that will avoid conflict of interest and reduce the perception of favoritism. b. The chair/school director will review the evaluation plan and if approved, notify the dean. c. If the plan is not approved, the chair/school director will work with the faculty member to modify the plan and notify the dean Paul Patrick Sr. Associate Registrar University of Central Oklahoma (405) 974-2336 ppatrick at uco.edu From: oacrao-l-bounces at lists.onenet.net [mailto:oacrao-l-bounces at lists.onenet.net] On Behalf Of Chelsea Phillips Sent: Monday, May 23, 2016 10:10 AM To: oacrao-l at lists.onenet.net Subject: [Oacrao-l] Parent/Instructor Hello All! To have a second degree conferred, the student must ? have completed the first baccalaureate degree at a regionally-accredited college or university as defined by the catalog section titled Acceptable Institutions for Transfer Credits. ? select a different degree (e.g. if the student graduated with a Bachelor of Science, the student must select a Bachelor of Arts) ? select a major from a different academic department than the major of the first degree. (For example, if the student?s first degree and major was a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, the student may not select a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Science as the second degree major. Instead, the student might select a Bachelor of Arts in English.) ? complete all required courses of a second degree program including any required General Education courses not completed in the first degree. General Education courses completed in a first degree do not need to be repeated. Any major course previously credited at SCU may not count towards the fulfillment of the second degree. At least 30 credit hours must be completed in courses offered through SCU of which 21 must be upper division. However, if the first degree was completed at SCU, the student needs only complete 15 of the 30 credit hours through courses offered at SCU, all upper-division. ? complete all courses required for the second degree program at SCU including any lower division or religion courses not taken as a part of the first degree. ? have not earned the first degree with a double major. A graduation fee will be applied to students graduating with a second degree. Sincerely, Sherri J. Hendrix, M.B.A. University Registrar Southwestern Christian University 7210 NW 39th Expressway P.O.
